does kibum know that he's a prince? or did he kind of learn about that when he was shown to the public? how does taemin react to little temper tantrum moments of kibum's?
Taemin has gently told Kibum over the years that he’s a prince, but he hasn’t told him that he’s first in line to be King after Taemin. He’s also only five years old and doesn’t really understand what it means to be a prince or a king, other than that his daddy is important. Sure, he watches children’s movies and reads fairytales about kings and queens and princesses and princes, but he doesn’t entirely understand how the monarchy works or what taemin even does or how he fits into everything.
But taemin does often call Kibum, “my little prince,” and it’s adorable and sweet and Kibum always covers his face and giggles and leans close to Taemin when he calls him that.
But Kibum’s temper tantrums can be brutal. They have been since he was a baby. At first, taemin had absolutely no idea how to deal with it. He tried everything to calm Kibum down - giving him candy, toys, telling him he’s okay, rocking him, giving him food. But Kibum’s face would remain bright red and he would scream at the top of his lungs and he once projectile vomited from his crib and it really truly was a nightmare. Taemin was like 16 and had no idea what the hell he was doing. A maid/nanny once found taemin curled up between the crib and the wall at three in the morning holding a screaming and crying Kibum and just rocking him back and forth and shushing him and taemin was crying and when she knelt in front of him he just said in a broken little voice, “I don’t know how to help him.”
It was heartbreaking.
Once Kibum is kindergarten though and taemin can take him out, taemin is more used to dealing with Kibum’s tantrums. There’s many a paparazzi photo in magazines and blogs and newspapers of taemin standing very nonchalantly doing whatever he has to while little key is whining and making a fuss at Taemin’s feet. There’s also more than a few videos.
“Are you done?” Taemin will ask once key quiets down.
“No!”
“Kay,” Taemin shrugs. “Lemme know when you are.”
And key will let out a strangled sounding mix of a scream and a whine and then stomp on the floor and swat at Taemin’s legs. Taemin just continues talking to the security guard or whoever is with them.
“Daddy?”
“Yeah bub?”
“I want you to hold me,” Key will say in a shaking voice.
And taemin will smile and bend over to pick key up and hold him at his hip and wipe his face off.
“My poor little bubby,” Taemin will coo, swiping key’s hair out of his eyes. “You shouldn’t scream so much. It’s bad for your throat.”
And taemin will go about his business while Key has a massive pout on his face and it’s just so endearing. Taemin just does not care if Key has a tantrum, he’s used to it. Besides, there are worse things Key could be doing than having a meltdown because he’s tired or hungry or anxious.
