He stills, the corpse's head still secure within the crook of his elbow. He pays attention to the thrum of his own pulse, relishing in the warmth of the incandescence that swells within his chest. It's accompanied by a persistent sense of euphoria—a tangible heat that floods his very marrow. It's unlike anything he's ever known.
Chapter Summary: Ambrose du Clairmont wakes after a nautiloid crash to a lithe woman picking his pockets. Miraculously, he escapes both nautiloid and pilferer with nary a scratch. Not an external one, at least.
There's only the one problem: the thief knows his name, and so much more besides. Where Ambrose's grey-matter has been carved into a void, Verna remembers a life—one that barely feels like it belongs to him at all.
