The band has done a million morning talk show interviews in the press tour for their first album, so even though Julie still gets nervous, she figures she knows what to expect. But then the host decides to discuss Luke being a Hot Guitar Sex God, which is… new. And maybe she gets a little flustered. And maybe she sorta confesses her crush on live television. And then they have to perform. So.

AU where everyone lives, but the band’s performance of “Edge of Great” has just as much tension as canon.

In 1998, Rose the Vampire Slayer and her Watcher Luke Patterson die saving the world. 17 years later, the ghost of Luke comes back to find that he has a new calling: protecting and mentoring the new Slayer, Rose’s daughter Julie. But it turns out that the only thing harder than being a Watcher is being a ghost Watcher who’s only corporeal to demons and is in love with his Slayer. There really needs to be a quick-start guide for this.

Buffy fusion fic, but you don’t need to know anything about Buffy. Basically just a vehicle for exploring a different take on Luke as a ghost and the “they can’t touch” thing.

But then I read it and the world Pearlcaddy created is utter perfection in all the ways the show is and somehow even more so? “I recognised your hat. From your christmas card,” she offers and feels her own lips pulling into a smile at his bark of laughter. aka julie needs to get the hell out of la for a few days and finds herself in a small town with a familiar face just as a snow storm rolls in.

The pairing of famous Julie and post-famous Luke’s emotional journeys is really lovely, and I’m already deeply in love with the small town that adopted Luke and with small town!Luke himself. It’s one of those fics that can completely cure a bad mood with warm and fuzzy feelings.
