Even though I said my goodbye in 2009, knowing that my former high school is about to be knocked down makes me upset. I spent 7 years in this building growing up. As a preschooler, I learned how to write and interact with my peers. In middle school, I went through a rough time losing friends and gaining new ones, like my group of friends who I am still close with today. High school was full of emotional ups and downs, but better yet, filled with great memories I will never forget.
Most of my teen years were spent in this building, and it's sad to see it be turn into rubble. Of course, the new school, which was built just yards from the original foundation, will bring new, better memories to the students who walk through its doors.
Those of us who were lucky enough to walk through the doors of "old Tahanto" will never forget its dirty floors, cracked walls, and leaking ceiling. Not much as changed since your doors first opened in 1962. For generations, you guided students through your simplistic halls. My aunts and father still can recall their way around the building from when they were high school students there. Not much has changed until now, and this new building will stand strong for its students children, and their children to come.
For me, I will never forget folding up tables in the cafeteria to make room for a dance floor, or weaving through the aisles of the auditorium chairs to get a better view of the stage. I will never forget the pre-rally meetings in the locker room before my softball games, or the afternoon I sat on it's gross floor, crying with my friends about a tough decision I had to make. I will never forget running through the halls after school hours- just because we could. I will never forget the locker I attained for three years in a row, or walking into homeroom, and standing still and silent for the pledge of allegiance.
Goodbye Tahanto Regional High School. Though you are just a building, you held within your walls the greatest, saddest and funnest memories I will ever have. Thank you for providing me with a place to grow, to enjoy, and to feel comfortable.
