Thanks to everyone who replied! I was curious becausen googling made it sound like pearlescent is mostly used in connection with paints, whereas I'd always associated it (apparently correctly) with mother of *pearl*. Also an American friend of mine said she had barely heard of pearlescent, which added to my confusion. Thank u!

I was feeling overwhelmed from the huge Abe/war protest and was fighting off tears (I missed a couple weeks on hormonal birth control) when I decided to go to LOFT on a whim. Then I had to fight off tears because I was so happy. Oh what a mess I was! But happy. Very very happy.

Could someone in the US or UK buy you a laptop and ship it to you? Might be the cheapest option.

With the Japanese yen being such a bitch, I don’t know about that. I’m holding out for a friend of mine that will be visiting in August. I really don’t want to screw with a Japanese keyboard, though, so buying elsewhere might be preferable. I hate constantly having to shift + 7 for the ‘ .

Of course, if somebody did buy and ship that for me, I would still have to pay a pretty big import tax.

I’m seriously paranoid about backups of stuff I’m working on since I lost a ton of stuff several years ago in a crash. I need to delete that corrupted file. 

It seems this only happens when I work with the doc on my usb instead of using the doc that I have saved to my computer. I had a similar incident occur while I was working on a doc at work where I couldn’t save the file to the computer.

That sucks, but it's better than the alternative! Maybe try using google docs going ahead? It autosaves so you wouldn't lose progress, and has basically all the same functionality as Word.

Yeah, I have a few reservations about google docs, but I don’t see many alternatives other than to keep using my 2003 Word. I need to get a new usb, too, to be safe, and start saving for a new computer while I actually have money. I can also turn more to Scrivener.
