I fucking love revenge stories. The only problem I have with The Count of Monte Christo is that the revenge wasn't bad enough (and the 5 page descriptions of rooms). There is rage within me that feeds on the angst of vengeance.

Summary-Dirk Struan and Tyler Brock long time enemies during China’s Opium Wars have decided they’ve reached an impasse. Struan has his Noble House trading company based in Hong Kong almost bankrupt and Brock is buried in his own personal drama. Struan also has his Chinese son Gordon Chen at his right hand while his English son and heir Culum is on his way after the deaths of his mother and siblings from cholera. But it’s not all quiet between Struan and Brock. They’ve been using their allies to take control of England’s trade in Asia. Tensions are once again on the rise and Culum has decided he wants to marry Brock’s older daughter Tess. Not that a marriage will bring the bitter rivals together. As the winds rise over Hong Kong Struan has his Chinese paramour May-May for companionship while Brock seethes on his ships, but when typhoon clears only one of them will be left. Dirk Struan and Tyler Brock don’t know it, but their rivalry will last for generations.

Pros-Struan fits nicely into the antihero category. May-May was the best part. The final scene with Struan and May-May during the storm. It took a while, but Brock acknowledged his son was a problem. Helps set things up for the events of Gai-Jin and Noble House.

Cons-I would have liked to see more of Gordon.
