arthur morgan and leon kennedy both being middle-aged blonde(ish) men with pretty blue eyes, facial scars, beards, twenty+ years of dedication sunk into a cause they care deeply about and yet is draining them awfully; both men who end up horribly ill, coughing and collapsing as a result of previous decisions of morality, who die for the people they can get out because they have to save everyone else and it's too late for them because they're so dedicated to their cause; who are killers with a crazy gun obsession, a sweet ride, deadly loyalty and people younger than them that they have to get out; who push their extremes again and again, until they're collapsing coughing up blood, dying because of their way of life and realise they have no escape and that they were ALWAYS going to die like this from the very first night and did they really think they were going to get out? and both being doomed by the people they wanted to help the most in the end really fucked with my mental health as soon as i noticed it
That slow, gut-wrenching realization when their attention drifts; it's like watching a star die right where you stand. The vibrant, shared energy that illuminated your connection dims, becoming a barely visible, cold cinder. That feeling is the realization of a temporal paradox: living on in a shared history that, for them, has already concluded. The current moment is rendered obsolete. You are watching the vibrant, immediate intensity they once held for you recede into a fixed memory; a beautiful but painful now sealed chapter. To them, you are a past tense verb, yet you must still carry on as a present participle, suspended in the unbearable limbo of being alive for a love that has already pronounced you dead. This isn't a quick ending; it's the slow, suffocating decomposition of being loved, concluding with the terrifying realization that your spirit has already been laid to rest in the mausoleum of their indifference.

"Slow Death" - Douglas Williams (1928)
'Memphis clarinetist Douglas Williams' first Victor session. The first of many records of original compositions that he would make with Victor from 1928-1930 before fading into complete obscurity thereafter. The first time I heard this side, the plaintive bleating of his gaspipe clarinet starting around 0:45 hit me hard - so expressively mournful! Recorded in Memphis, Tennessee on January 31, 1928 Released as Victor 21269 and reissued as Bluebird BB B-6151 Credits Douglas Williams - clarinet Blaine Elliott - piano Sam Sims - drums'
