I really don’t like when people paint Tailtiu as being “dumb” or clueless about things like for example what Reptor is planning or how she’s following Claud out of a crush for him. She’s actually a lot more aware and perceptive about what’s going on, especially regarding her family and Sigurd’s army in general.

She says she can’t wrap her head around her father’s schemes directly after Sigurd identifies her as Reptor’s daughter to distance herself from Friege’s dirty political plays.

A large part of Tailtiu’s struggles in Generation 1 comes down to how she loves her family, specifically her father, but only on a personal level. When it comes to House Friege’s status and wellbeing being bolstered through reprehensible acts, Tailtiu would prefer to not involve herself in any of it. Traveling with Claud to act as his bodyguard is essentially Tailtiu running away from her family’s antics.

Reptor actually knows that his daughter is being traitorous to their house and how she disagrees with their current actions. She may have even disagreed with them on other matters before the events of Generation 1 ever began.

He paints it as Claud brainwashing his daughter with lies when in reality, Tailtiu is aware enough to know that what her family is doing is wrong.

Note that Tailtiu still apologizes to him in this confrontation. Even in Feh, she laments about how her actions have made House Friege lose its honor by her joining Sigurd’s army. Her sadness is because she still loves her father as a father but couldn’t agree with his actions as Duke of Friege so he may not love her anymore. The family she grew up with essentially becomes more foreign, hostile to her. She ends up in Sigurd’s army and befriends the members there, understanding that these people were falsely accused of treason by her father. Her intuition tells her to continue to fight for their sake.

And that’s one of the main traits of Tailtiu that shouldn’t be mistaken for cluelessness, it’s her intuition. She doesn’t like thinking hard about certain things because it ends in her lamenting about doing the right thing. She’s even perceptive about how Sigurd’s army acts around her and confides in Azelle about it.

Someone who is an airhead likely wouldn’t notice how people act around them subtly. She knows her father is up to no good and knows that these people are being affected by his accusations. She doesn’t want them to feel like she’s on his side.

Tailtiu’s intuition and sense of justice is meant to contrast with Reptor’s pragmatism that he justifies as being beneficial to his family’s wellbeing (a family of nobility mind you so he’s doing it so they’d have more political power in the future).

And thats not even scratching the events of Gen 2 with how Reptor’s ideology is what motivates Bloom and Hilda into subjugating lands and allowing child hunts to take place in said lands.

Happy 30th anniversary to Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War! It's been my my favorite Fire Emblem game every since I played it for the first time and I'm really hoping for a remake so more people can enjoy it (we've been duped too many times darn it!!). Here's a really cool action shot of my Tailtiu cosplay from the MAGFest Jugdral photoshoot. Tailtiu is really powerful with her Thoron tome and the effect looks so cool!

Old School FE Artist Spotlight #3: Yuuka Matsumoto (松本ゆうか)

Happy 30th anniversary to FE4! On today's episode of the "Old School FE Artist Spotlight" we have; Yuuka Matsumoto! I chose her since she's worked on a lot of FE4 related material.

Yuuka Matsumoto is a Teen's Love (TL)* mangaka that has been active since the late (?) 90s. She focuses on writing for the shoujo and josei demographic, but she also made some Boy's Love manga as well (some of which includes shotacon). Early on in her career, she made a few one shots for horror magazine, Gakuen Mystery.

*Teen's Love (TL) refers to erotic and smut manga written for older teen girls and women. The characters in those manga have an adult cast. Though these days, I believe they're more targeted towards adult women.

She's created doujinshi for series such as Detective Conan, Final Fantasy, Digimon, and Gundam Wing.
