Old School FE Artist Spotlight #3: Yuuka Matsumoto (æŸæŹăăă)
Scans by ShiningEmblem64, gaebolgz, and FlareHabanero
Previous artist: Tetsu Matsudaira
Happy 30th anniversary to FE4! On today's episode of the "Old School FE Artist Spotlight" we have; Yuuka Matsumoto! I chose her since she's worked on a lot of FE4 related material.
Yuuka Matsumoto is a Teen's Love (TL)* mangaka that has been active since the late (?) 90s. She focuses on writing for the shoujo and josei demographic, but she also made some Boy's Love manga as well (some of which includes shotacon). Early on in her career, she made a few one shots for horror magazine, Gakuen Mystery.
*Teen's Love (TL) refers to erotic and smut manga written for older teen girls and women. The characters in those manga have an adult cast. Though these days, I believe they're more targeted towards adult women.
She's created doujinshi for series such as Detective Conan, Final Fantasy, Digimon, and Gundam Wing.
Here is a list of her artist credits for the FE series:
Fire Emblem The Legend of Archanea Comic Anthology
Fire Emblem Enix Super Comic Gekijoh Vol.2
FE World Tour (Vol. 3, 4)
Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War: Shounen Oh Short Gag BoxÂ
Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War: Gag Battle (Holy Warrior in Love, Holy Warriors of Light, Assault Edition, Gag Paradise, Pursuit Edition,)Â
Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War Kobunsha Heaven Short Comic
Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War: Holy Legend Comic Anthology
Fire Emblem Thracia 776 Kobunsha Comic Anthology 1 (Artist)
Fire Emblem Thracia 776 Kobunsha Comic Anthology 2
Fire Emblem Thracia 776 Kobunsha Short Comics
She's also made a few FE doujinshi! Here's a list of them:
TOP OF THE WORLD (Date unknown) [Leaf centric]
Digital Outlet (Date unknown)
FIREă»FIRE (Date unknown) [General]
marvelousïŒïŒ (Date unknown)
Don't blame the children (1996) [Quan/Eldigan]
Feeling great (1997)
Her recent work as of writing this post is ćć± äșșăŻçŸ©ćŒăćèĄæŹçăæȘäșĄäșșăŻćœŒăźæćżă«ăŸă æ°ă„ăăŠăăȘă (2025). It does not a have an English release as of yet.
I hope you enjoyed this post on one of FE's many contributing artists!

SURUGA-YA (For the doujinshi information)
In honor of the FE4 30th anniversary: What would you say is your favorite moment in the entire game?
The beginning of Chapter 6 after the hell that was Chapter 5. Like imagine coming out of the shocking ending of Generation 1, all hell was broken loose and the antagonists have essentially won. Everything about Chapter 5 was about dread and desperation with the theme and story cementing Sigurdâs march towards his end.
Then, a little ray of light shines in the midst of this bleak future as the narration begins to mention a rebel group being situated in a remote part of Issach with one of its figureheads being Sigurdâs own son. Oifey and Shannan are mentioned too, with Dannan in fear of them and weâll soon see them grown up and as actual units to use. The war is not over yet and Sigurdâs legacy along with the wishes of the many who gave their lives to fight Grannvale live on with this new generation.
Also Chapter 6âs theme is awesome
Which FE4 character (or goober if you prefer but not just the goobers) is most likely to work at an aquarium and pet seals
Ooh in terms of who would work at such an aquarium, I think the Bragi siblings would manage it quite well. Coirpre would be great at maintaining the tanks and feeding the animals while Lene works both as a tour guide and as the trainer for the pinnipeds there (she teaches them tricks)
What kind of E.G.O. Arthur and Fee would get if they were LCB Sinners? Hi btw! đ
Hello prinny!
Hmm, I believe for these twoâs EGOs I would have them wearing their original Fe4 attire (though Arthurâs would look more worn down) but with the orange and white stripe pattern you see the other Sinners wearing in their base EGOs.
Arthurâs would be him ditching his tome and still managing to angrily charge up lightning within the palm of his hand before firing it off as if it were Thoron. The EGO reflects his feelings of loss and anger over his familyâs kidnapping and subsequent mistreatment hence the lightning he generates is derived from his wrath. Yet it also symbolizes his regret about not being able to safeguard what was once everything to him and having the same Thrud blood as the people who took his family away.
Deciding the EGOâs affinity was admittedly difficult because thematically itâs easy to make it Wrath yet both the blue color of lightning that Friege members use and the regret aspect of the EGO fit aesthetically with Gloom. The closest EGO to compare this to is AEDD and the background is that of a barren desert amidst a stormy night.
Feeâs would be her leaping high in the air with her spear in hand as her Pegasus sweeps by to carry her down towards the enemy for a dive bomb. Yet when she drops down to impale their target, the Pegasus that she was riding on fades away, almost as if it had never existed. This EGOâs theme is that of the ideals of chivalry and the stories of heroes that Fee looks up to. She wishes to be amongst such legends and so she takes up to the skies with her head in the clouds as readies to give the enemy a more dignified end.
Yet her sense of idealism does come from a place of pride that she has as Erinysâ daughter and Annandâs niece, whom both were renowned knights/fixers/whichever fits the implied setting. Her Pegasusâ name is Annand and it is as if her auntâs spirit came to aid her. Thats why her EGOâs affinity would be Pride and its background would be initially within a snowy forest until she leaps into the cloudy skies then returning back to the forest. The comparable EGOs would be La Sangre de Sancho + Pursuance.
I am unfortunately not very good at making up names for these EGOs so I do welcome any inputs and ideas đ
if you were with Arthur, Fee, Ced, and Tine and one of them had to cook dinner for you, who would you trust to screw it up the least?
Probably Ced because heâd just follow the recipe book word for word. Tine would be too nervous and get hung up on an instruction or two while the goobers would probably get âcreativeâ with their recipes or even the dish they want
she's a Lene green dancing machine
Hello, it's been a while. I've been hearing scary things unfolding in Burgeristan right now, which, I think you've heard already.
Somehow I remembered you. I genuinely hope you and your family (as well as Skellie and his) to stay safe, healthy, and thriving even in these chaotic times. I hope the rest of your family, relatives, their dogs and cats and everything else in the Middle East and wherever they are, are given strength.
I hope that in this dark times, compassion covers them like how the Hagia Sophia sheltering stray cats from the rain wherever they go, in every era, from one emperor to another and eventually one sultan to sehzades.
The proud biladal Sham of Syria will heal, and the resilient Lebanon will always stand proudly until the end of time.

Thank you
do you think that Arthur would ever get tired of snow
I think he would get tired of it quickly but to go even further: He wouldnât like it in general and itâs probably the one thing he wouldnât miss about Silesse.
Do you think that Arthur has a sweet tooth
I think he doesnât have one but does remember his motherâs attempts at making desserts fondly. Likes apple based desserts specifically
How involved do you think Arthur would be regarding Fee's complicated relationship with her father, Lewyn? Would he lose respect for him?
Hmm this is a really good question considering the implied relationship Lewyn and Arthur had from the Kaga notes of mentor and student. Without Lewyn teaching Arthur magic, the lad probably wouldnât have gotten far in his journey to find Tine. He thus owes a lot to the former king as a result.
But he also owes a lot to Fee too and seeing Lewyn just ignore his own daughter when they âreuniteâ in Ribaut castle would make the mage feel disturbed by the whole situation. Thats also when Fee makes up her mind to never talk to her father until he acknowledges her first which is something Arthur wouldnât think is a good idea but remains silent.
Eventually, during the Miletos campaign (chp 10), Lewyn does talk to Fee directly but it doesnât end so well. Fee is left devastated yet also enticed to become a better knight (+5 strength) due to her fatherâs harsh words while Lewyn shrugs the abandonment of Erinys as something his children have no say in. Theyâre in a war and such feelings have no place on the battlefield or so he rationalizes it as.
And itâs at that point where Arthur loses all the respect he had for his mentor. Like his mother, he does cherish family but only on a personal level and seeing Lewyn try to push Fee away into becoming what is essentially a soldier whoâs only focused on winning the war disgusts Arthur. How is this any different from the way House Friege uses its scions for its own gains with the way Tine was pushed towards a battlefield she wanted no part in?
If he wasnât the advisor of Seliph, Lewyn probably wouldâve been beaten by Arthur for how he treated Fee in Chp 10.
Oh and fun fact, the Fuyuki Nea manga for Fe4 sorta covers such a scenario where Arthur sees the fallout between Fee and Lewyn
How would the relationship between arthur and fee differ if Lewyn was Arthur's father? Horseti time I suppose. Must be that your girlfriends brother is named after your ancestor.
I'm assuming you default Azelle to be Arthur's father right?
While I do default to Azelle x Tailtiu, Iâve thought about scenarios ft a Lewyn x Tailtiu continuity so Iâll muse about it here:
Assuming Erinys never found him and Arthur just remained in the outskirts of Silesse, theyâll still act all chummy and banter with one another normally during the beginning of Generation 2. However, once Arthur recognizes Lewyn is his father and the revelation that he has Major Forseti blood, Fee first gets the epiphany that she had threatened to send the future prince of her kingdom skydiving straight to the ground. She tries to act very formal and easy on him once his identity is revealed but he really prefers her when sheâs just herself and treats him as her partner like she used to. He wasnât raised as a royal and doesnât plan to be treated as such but he does actually like it when Fee treats Tine as royalty.
Now Fee believes that Silesse can be saved from imperial control if the rightful heir returns hence why sheâs even willing to put her life on the line to protect Arthur in this context. This type of self-sacrifice, imitating what happened with Annand, is something that Arthur wonât tolerate. He would rather put himself in a figurative meat grinder than have someone whom he considers special to him risk death for his sake. His father Lewyn might approve of such actions for pragmatic reasons but thankfully, Arthur isnât his father. In the end, thanks to Feeâs company and seeing her efforts in continuing to fight to save Silesseâs future regardless of whose blood flows in her, Arthur decides to embrace the title of king as a way to help her achieve her dreams.
That dream of a peaceful Silesse was the same one that Erinys and Annand wanted to see come to fruition so it means a lot to Fee that Arthur softens up to the idea of embracing his title. And because they remain as partners throughout the war, Fee gets to better know Arthur as Arthur than just the once long lost prince she should protect. Of course, his tactlessness is still something he should work on in her opinion but with his own brand of selflessness, heâll make for a fine king.
Once they return to Silesse together, Arthur would bestow the title of Heavenly Knight to Fee since sheâd often talk about becoming a hero akin to Annand and despite her more outgoing/carefree personality, he knows that she is a very capable knight regardless of how others might perceive her as. But this sort of coronation came with Arthurâs bold idea of also proposing to her afterwards. Itâs safe to say that Fee was probably the happiest person in Jugdral during that day.
Now in regards to Ced: the whole looking after the prince thing becomes Cedâs thing and itâs a more passive-aggressive dynamic where Ced kindly reminds Arthur how proper royals ought to act to the mageâs irritation. And well, in regard to Ced being named after his ancestor, Arthur just scoffs at it, thinking that having the name of a legend doesnât really guarantee someone will be successful down the line. Thereâs also just the fact that Arthurâs thoughts about his extended family range from âapathyâ to âtheir lineage ought to be purged.â That sentiment would also include which crusaders heâs descended from ergo Ced the Crusader doesnât mean much to him. Although part of him does think that Ced would be a better ruler of Silesse than he would because of Cedâs accomplishments in Munster.
who do you think Miles Edgeworth should prosecute in Jugdral?
Hoo boy I think Edgeworth would have a thrill trying to prosecute Perne for failing to uphold employee rights (poor Tina), running an organized crime syndicate and harboring a cultist from a blacklisted cult (the logic being that Salem should have been tried first to prove his innocence). And just like the back and forth between the allegedly morally upstanding yet slick Perne and the down to earth Miles would be quite humorous to see.
Any ideas of how an interaction between Fee and Misha would go? Must be awkward to meet the daughter of your moms killer. You can include Arthur in there if you want.
I think Misha and Fee used to be friends back when they both were knights in Silesse with the possibility of Misha being her and Karinâs squad leader. Other knights or Silesians may curse Misha for her motherâs stance during the war but I donât think Erinys or Fee would ever hold that against them. Likewise, I donât think Misha would find it awkward to befriend the daughter of her momâs killer, with both knights understanding that they prioritize Silesseâs wellbeing above all.
That also might be why as a heavenly knight, Dithorbaâs treachery is far less severe than Pamelaâs since she simply thinks that Myos would be a way better king than Lewyn. Sheâs not involved in Grannvaleâs land grabs like Pamela and Daccar are.
Thereâs a sense of altruism that Ced and Fee have which they inherited from their mother (Erinys will take up the mantle of queen regardless of who she marries to aid her people no matter what) and it drives them to help out others regardless of who they are . Like Ced helps the people of Munster in a land foreign to him and Fee helps Arthur hitch a ride with her even though its only when they land in Issach that Fee finds out why he even wanted to tag along. It makes sense then that Fee wouldnât mind that Misha is Dithorbaâs daughter so long as sheâs not against them.
Mishaâs realism would contrast with Feeâs idealism and they both would be prone to disagreeing with each otherâs outlooks. This eventually leads to a bit of a falling out between the two as Misha plans to leave Erinysâ side to go work as a mercenary and Fee believes that she should stay to assist her mother since Erinys would be going through alot during that period. Eventually, they reconnect in North Thracia once Leifâs army merges with Seliph and Feeâs just so happy that her two friends are back with her again (Karin was away for a year and Misha was likely away for much longer). Sheâd forgive Mishaâs whole brief employment by the empire after Karin explains why she did it and Fee is aware of how things were getting bad in Silesse.
Oh and both Karin & Misha would see Arthur tagging along with Fee as you would see a polar bear taking a stroll in Arlington, Texas.
Which Jugdral character would you want Phoenix Wright to defend in court?
The easy answer is Sigurd. The favoritism answer is Deirdre or Ethlyn. But the answer I am going for...
Holy banger
How would you explain the reasoning for Illos refusing to join unless Olwen is dead? Just kinda bizarre.
Idk fun fact I guess, Illos, Olwen funnily enough, Xavier, and Galzus all share the same growth rates.
Because of his inferiority complex, imagine if he saw Olwen (a noblewoman related to Reinhardt) and realized that he isnât the only mage knight in Leifâs army and that Karin essentially duped him into thinking he, a commoner, had a chance to elevate his status. Dude would be livid
Also this fun fact reminds me of the other fun fact that Cormag and Raven also have the same copy-pasted growths as each other
which FE4 character do you think is most like Estelle?
Estelle from the hit series Trails first debuting in Trails in The Sky: First Chapter belonging to the Trails in The Sky trilogy games set in the fictional country of Liberl within the continent of Zemuria?
Yeah so probably Larcei or Fee. Iâd lean to the latter because she uses a big stick with a pointy end but either fit Estelleâs character
