The little "animation production" comment, while seeming to be a bit of a meta-joke on Toei's behalf, because it makes NO sense in canon, was still probably just meant to highlight how goddamn married these two are at this point.

Like... Yamato complaining about Taichi being a slack-off? Taichi bragging about being able to speak French (!!!) after having visited Yamato's grandfather (like, seriously, where is the context here aside from them being implied to be actual boyfriends???). The constant bickering???

Of course they wouldn't downright canonize it, but they know that they've built an audience for this kind of relationship dynamic ever since Tri.
