well, kiyomi can get quite used to this.

so they start dating, right? and ofc we have rem’s feelings for misa quietly developing in the background as all this is occurring, and misa’s affection for rem is a constant undercurrent to her relationship with kiyomi, so kiyomi. gets a little. interested.

and basically rem gets two girlfriends!!

now this begs several questions, however:

what would kiyomi’s reaction be to a threat like L?

one thing that light did that kiyomi probably wouldn’t do is challenge L so directly. i don’t think she’s nearly as brazen as he is, and especially in an au like this, kiyomi would be really careful to take all the precautions she can in order to not get caught. the difference being that while light wanted ppl to know that there was someone passing judgement on them, kiyomi probably would get more satisfaction out of being able to influence the world from the shadows. so her approach as kira —or whatever she’s known as— would be much more subtle and harder to catch.

regardless, would hers and misa’s killings still come to L’s attention?

it would probably come to his attention at some point.. i think they would definitely become careless after a while, and begin to show patterns in their killings that might get noticed by, say, a particularly clever college student who often works with the police force? from there it’s anyone’s game... it’s hard to say whos in favor of winning!! light and L are a formidable team, after all.

wouldn’t smth like up-and-coming model/actress misa amane suddenly being seen dating a woman be breaking news?

probably,, and given that L sets his sights on misa first in canon, it could spell out trouble for our girls. that is, if misa goes the route she does in canon while trying to get kira’s attention, with sakuratv and all that. it also makes me wonder if kiyomi’s kira would even be all that well known by the world at large, and if her followers are more underground... again, this is considering that kiyomi’s tactics are probably much more secretive and varied and less showboat-y than light’s.
