When I started as a photographer, 20 years ago in a mall portrait studio in Cherry Hill, NJ, we used to sell a LOT of 8x10s. Every client, every time, would ask for an 8x10 of their favorite image to hang in their home.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you know how teeny tiny an 8x10 looks over a sofa, above your bed, or on your dining room wall?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It just looks silly!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 8x10s aren't wall portraits--they're desk sized portraits, portraits that go on a picture rail with ten or fifteen different framed or mounted images in similar sizes. Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could bottle up special memories, and uncork them just at the moment we want to recall them? Unfaded, and unchanged? Spill the T: what is your favorite "secret menu" item?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Did you know that a Puerto Rican pirate named Roberto Colfresí served a coconut-pineapple-rum concoction in order to raise morale among his swashbuckling crewman? True story. Fast forward 193 years and here it is day!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Of course, not everyone can drink this sweet and fruity alcoholic beverage...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A few weeks ago, I was sitting in the @starbucks at 29th Street Mall, sipping on an iced tea lemonade when I heard an unusual order being placed:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cool lime refresher, with coconut milk instead of water, and extra lime. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The barista dutifully typed in the order, and then looked up at her. "That's an interesting combination."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "It tastes just like a she replied.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, of course, after she left, I had to try one myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Personally, I think that the mint in the cool lime refreshers makes the drink taste more like a mojito than a Pina colada, but hey, that's just me, and I could be wrong. Still, it's now my go-to Starbucks Secret Menu beverage when I'm looking for something with a little less caffeine and a little more cool.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What about you?
