Okay, so maybe there was work bright and early in the morning. They just took a three hour nap, and were almost at the site. Hopefully, John was thinking Alex would catch a little bit more sleep on the way home in a couple of hours. He didn't really mind if he was exhausted in the morning, this was his idea afterall. Besides, work would be there regardless. But July held out the opportunity to see all five planets, and John was hoping they'd get to come up every week to see the progression of it. Late July was going to be the best, but they were going to have to work to get out in the country by then.
"I was thinking we could come up here every week. They don't all have to be work nights, you know. Before the end, though, I want to come out here, probably leave right around five thirty or so. Because right before sunset, you can see all the planets at once, but it's only for a brief second. But, tonight, we should be able to see Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn!" He explained, his fingers laced tightly with Alex's as he kept their hands right around Alex's thigh, his other hand holding the steering wheel as he pulled off the side road.
His family owned the land, primarily because of Henry and his astronomy pleasures. It was one of the few good things that he was given from his father, along with the fake charm and wicked good acting skills. The bad things, were obvious, and tonight wasn't the time for that. Despite what they were about to see, John held the entire universe in his right hand, and he was lucky enough to be able to press his lips in between each and every bend of the celestial creation's hand.
"This was one of the places I took you. I don't know if you remember. I mean, I'm sure you remember it, but you may not remember this exact place. It was very dark whenever I brought you here last time as well." John explained with a laugh. "One of our 'dates' or so was actually here. The picnic. It was one of the big meteor showers of 2014, and we came up here. I think it was October. I think it was actually supposed to be a group thing, but we either decided we'd rather them not be here or they decided to ditch us. I forget the technicalities, I just remember every second of us actually being here." John finished, his smile being brought into the highest corners of his face as he remembered stealing kisses in between freezing to death and watching the sky.
John drives the car down a gravel road, his eyes focusing on the road as he pulls over to a good spot. The land was roughly a couple of acres, most of it being a clearing. The family usually used it mostly in the summer, and if it was during the daylight, John could see the firepit they usually used for cook outs. He turned the lights and the car off, kissing Alex's hand before pulling his own away to turn on his phone's flashlight. He climbed out of the car, his legs walking him to the trunk where he grabbed the bag with the blanket and lantern, the cooler bag with the food and drinks, and grabbed the other bag with the telescope. John didn’t want Alex to have to do anything, just marvel at the beauty John had been studying for years. John had made them a couple sandwiches while Alex woke up from napping, and packed up the car before he could offer to help. There was nothing better than an impromptu date, if you asked John.
Quickly, he turned the lamp on and situated the blanket, laying it out on a soft piece of land before placing the bag full of food down. Setting the telescope behind him, he plopped down on the soft Earth, his legs folding beneath him into a criss cross position. Patting the place next to him, he looked up at Alex's shadow and kissed the air in his direction.
