Hiccup was born to the wrong family, he always thought so at least. No matter how hard the young man tried to live up to the expectations of his father, the leader of an elite witch hunter group called “the dragon hunters,” he just couldn’t. He loves his father dearly and he loves his neighbourhood in Adamsville, the sketchy rough part of town that they call “the Berk” so he tried to do things in his own way. People always called him a walking fishbone but this fishbone was rather clever. He was very good at engineering things and built a device that managed to knock a dragon from the sky the night of a dragon raid on the neighbourhood. No one believed that he’d done it so he went off to bring them the head but when he saw the dragon, suffering on the ground, scared and unable to fly…he couldn’t bring himself to kill it.

Secretly he’s been going off to the woods to study the creature, learn from it. At first he justified it as recon for his family but it didn’t take long for him to realize that he’d been doing it because he saw something of himself in the dragon. Slowly he’s been making friends with the creature but with as busy as his life it getting, will he be able to keep it a secret? With his grades as good as they are, teachers are encouraging him to go to university for engineering and the AV club needed his attention more and more as they crept closer to graduation. His father wants him to attend the dragon hunting school with the other kids in The Berk.

As far as Anya knows, she’s a skinny little orphan from Russia without a past or a future. She grew up in a foster home near St Petersburg, lacking any memories from before she was ten. She knew she could speak three languages, Russian, French and English and she knew she could ride a horse and dance, she also had a necklace with an inscription on the back, “together in Paris, forever in Adamsville.” When she was sixteen, she was kicked out of her foster home and went to France looking for clues before making her way to Adamsville in America where she got her GED, met a dog named Pooka and got a job as a train station attendant, selling tickets. She has a small one room apartment above an antique shop down town and spends much of her free time looking for clues as to who she was.

What she doesn’t know, is that she’s the non-magical daughter of a magical pureblood family who was destroyed by a dark wizard for casting him out of their service. This wizard vowed to kill her entire family and since she is still alive, his goal could never be completed. Her grandmother routinely returns to Adamsville and Greylock’s landing but will Anya be alive to see her?

Mason, or Dipper as he’s most often called is a pretty smart cookie. He always did very well at school, perhaps he wasn’t street smart but he had a grasp of topics a lot of kids older than him didn’t. He was never really happy growing up in California, he was bullied a lot but at least in Cali he had his sister to stand by him. Things changed one summer when the two were sent to Adamsville to work at their Grunkle’s so called “Mystery Shack”, a tourist trap on the edge of town. That summer Mabel, his twin sister, had been very clingy and it annoyed him, a lot and he pushed her away but that September, he found to his horror that she wasn’t going to the same school he was going to, she was going to some boarding school while he would have to go to Adamsvile Middle school.

He didn’t expect to be stuck in Adamsville so long but four years later he was still there. He saw his parents at regular intervals and despite the distance his sister was almost always around. He made some friends and found that he was closer to almost getting some feeling of control and success in life. He felt somewhat abandoned and had a hard time with his Grunkle as his guardian but it was livable, especially since he had a mystery to solve. The first summer he arrived in Adamsville he found a mysterious book in the woods, a hand written journal detailing incredible creatures and places found in Adamsville and in the forest surrounding it. Aware of the supernatural, he joined the nature walk club, eager to prove the existence of the contents of the journal. Little does he know the supernatural element to his own family, that his Grunkle is a wizard and that his twin sister is a witch. How would the react to the news? Would he feel excited or once again betrayed…

The very last thing that Jack remembers is being dragged out of a lake and a scary looking face as pale as the moon and a name, a strange name that he can’t quite place or remember. He knows that he isn’t bothered by the cold really, he knows he can float and he knows that if he were to be separated from his staff, bad things may happen. He knows that the man with the name mentioned something about thestrals, how remarkable it was that he carry so many of their traits but he doesn’t exactly know what he is. He was found by MACUSA out in the woods and brought up to Ilvermorny to be studied by the teacher there and to contain him but that has been easier said than done.

One of the first things Jack has come to notice about himself was that there are times he feels more human, with brown hair even, sensitive to the cold and times he feels more like a spirit with his hair turning white as snow. When his hair turns white, very few people can see him, it is in this state that he can float and that his staff takes on a mysterious, more powerful quality. They determined that he wasn’t a wizard but he wasn’t precisely a no-maj either. Among the names he’s heard in the halls, one has stuck out, Finkelstein. He was the one he could barely remember. Whether he finds out the truth of his past through this Finkelstein or by some other means doesn’t matter too much to him. He will do what it takes to unlock the secrets of his past but in the meantime, he’s looking to have some fun with his power.

Vampire

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride, Emily has always been obsessed with weddings and marriage. She had several cousins and friends who had gotten married and she was a bridesmaid at each of their weddings. She wanted desperately for the girl wearing white to one day be her but she’d never even had a boyfriend or girlfriend, much less a serious one. One day, she met a boy and he was very sweet and told her he loved her. She believed him and made plans to run away with him at graduation to get married. She waited for him in the forest outside of town in Nebraska but he never showed. It turned out he had just lured her out to be fed on by vampires who wanted a taste of virgin blood. Deciding they liked her, they turned her and left her in the woods.

She was dead now and had an urge to feed on the living. She was scared, lonely, confused and angry but soon she heard about the wonders of the world of magic and a place called Ilvermorny, Greylock’s landing and Adamsville where there was refuge for her kind. She made the journey to the Massachusetts’s town in hopes she may find a witch or a wizard that could help her, maybe make her human again.

Barrel is a squib, he was born to very wealthy and powerful pureblood parents but was abandoned in Romania once they learned he couldn’t do a lick of magic. He roamed the streets of the dangerous city of Bucharest for several days before being found by Boogie’s men. It struck him how little muggles seemed to understand about the dangers that surrounded them, to them, Bucharest was just like any other city. He didn’t expect Oogie Boogie to have any use for a magicless loser like himself but surprisingly, he did. Oogie liked having someone without magic on hand for spying and integrating into muggle society. Growing up he only began to feel more out of place as he realized he wasn’t straight but in the Boogie family he found a home.

He went with Oogie to America, eager to find ways to help. He couldn’t enrol at Ilvermorny but he was able to enrol at Adamsville High. He’s been gently pulling his new friends into darker pastimes but he’s beginning to feel a little bit guilty. The people he goes to school with are so kind and mostly accepting of him. Will his guilt win out or will it be his love for his family and if the guilt does win out, will he even survive?

Grocer/Farmer

FC: Daisy Ridley

Growing up, Kayley always looked up to her father. She was always fascinated by the job that took him away on long trips, far away from the farm. He didn’t dislike the farm, or begrudge it but she knew she wasn’t made for it. One day when she was ten, her father went off on a business trip, when he came back, he wasn’t alive. Kayley was devastated and as she grew older she wanted to know more and more. Slowly, she uncovered the truth, that her father died protecting some boy who lived in town, alongside this boy’s parents. Her father was a knight of the round table, sworn to protect whoever pulls excaliber from the sword in the stone.

Kayley knows who the boy is and knows now that he has the sword. She wants to finish what her father started but she can’t fight, not really, she isn’t even in with the hunters. To make matters worse, she’s uncovered a threat to Arthur’s life she has to warn him of. Will she protect him from this evil? Can she learn to be a true knight? Can she form a new knights of the round table to protect Arthur Pendragon or is she simply not strong enough? For now she’s working as a cashier at an Adamsville grocery store and doing work on the farm but the future is not so mundane.

Witch Hunter/Dragon Slayer

Chloe Grace Moretz

Astrid is from the rougher side of Adamsville in a neighbourhood called “The Berk.” Houses in that end of town aren’t great and the people who live there tend to live more like spartans than Americans. Little does most of the town know that this isn’t because all these people are poor…necessarily. It’s because they’re witch hunters but a kind trained especially to combat dangerous magical beasts. They call themselves Dragon Slayers and Astrid has always been especially proud of her family’s history. Her mother and father were especially prominent Dragon Slayers, even taking down an actual dragon. She’s trained hard in a variety of weapons and is an active member of the Adamsville hunters.

At high school, she’s the resident bad girl, very popular with the punk crowd and the edgier hunters. She doesn’t let anyone get to close and doesn’t give you the time of day if she doesn’t think you’re worth your salt. She doesn’t think she’s better than anyone necessarily, she just knows exactly which side she’s on and what she’s about. She doesn’t have time for stupid high school stuff, like algebra and prom. There’s a war between the dark magical world and the world of light and humans and she’ll be damned if she let’s them win.
