autumn foliage and colorful hakata, november 2019 - day 5.
this is our final day in kyushu, woke up to another beautiful day, had hearty japanese breakfast at the hotel after a wonderful bath at the onsen, i truly miss having baths! as the hotel is connected directly to the beautiful keishuuen 慧洲園, our trip will not be complete without visiting the garden. there isn’t much people around the area at all, so the garden was practically ours the whole morning. we also went to the yoko museum 陽光美術館 inside the garden for some cultural experience, where we made our own accessories using ceramic pieces and also get to try how to make matcha the correct way, it’s not easy at all! but it’s so fun to do it.
the whole morning was very chill, walking around the garden, taking countless photos of the autumn foliage and just enjoying nature, and no one around us to disturb at all, i was so in love with the moment. we checked out shortly after, and had a quick but yummy lunch at takeo onsen station, the saga beef bento was super tender and delicious, it’s a must-try if you ever come here.
we took the express train back to hakata 博多, and it’s time to explore this city before going back to tokyo tonight. our first stop is kushida shrine 櫛田神社, which is one of many famous attractions, and it is also fun to walk in the city, since the weather was really comfortable. this shrine is popular as it held major festival during summer, and there’s a thousand years old gingko tree here, which is believed to be the oldest tree in hakata. we spent some time taking photos, making prayers, before moving on to our next destination.
canal city hakata キャナルシティ博多 is definitely a must-visit location if you are in the city, the building structure is really nice, with a musical fountain area. and lots of stores surrounding it. there’s also christmas decoration around the shopping arcade, making the atmosphere very nice. we walked around the place for a little, and i did some shopping at sanrio store. and we also saw the beautiful musical fountain show before leaving the place for dinner.
when in hakata, the one food to try - hakata ramen! we were not able to go to the famous yatai for it, but we found one of their branches - nagahama number one 長浜ナンバーワン, nearby the station. the ramen was delicious, simple but flavorful, the soup is enjoyable too.
before taking the subway to the airport, we shopped a little at hakata station, getting some snacks as souvenirs, which is so convenient. we managed to arrived at the airport quite early, which means we have some extra time to walk around the area and see what fukuoka domestic airport has to offer. we found a super yummy creme brulee cheesecake at one of the desserts store, and bought one home. super happy and satisfied, as we also tasted many different desserts. i slept through the flight back to tokyo, as i was getting tired walking around all day.
we finally arrived at haneda domestic terminal around 11 and we took the airport limousine bus back to TCAT once again, and walked back to my friend’s home around midnight, and it was so cold compared to 3 days ago.. it seems that there’s a rather drastic temperature changes in a few days.
