I think about names a lot 😅 I will try to be as concise as possible!

Kala Alaya'an

A silly play on the word "Kalayaan" which means "freedom (liberty/sovereignty/independence)" in Tagalog

Lumaya (Kala's brother)

This requires a bit of Tagalog grammar. "Laya" is the root word here. Lumaya (Lumayà) also means "free (verb)" -- but Lumaya's previous name (deadname) was Malaya before he comes out. Malaya also means "free (adjective)"... in becoming who he is, he makes his name into a verb. Sorry it's so corny and Tagalog isn't even my family's main language (which is Ilonggo, a different Filipino language LOL)

Ugat & Kanlu

Ugat means "root" and Kanlu is taken from the word kanlungan, which means "shelter" or "refuge"... Ugat and Kanlu are brothers, both of them are different odes to the common Filipino diasporic experience of kind of being severed from one's ancestral culture and history in varying degrees. They are sons of displaced people, victims of forced migration. Ugat's name means "root" for this reason, a dual meaning to the loss of preserved culture and as someone who had always struggled to lay down roots in any one place. As for Kanlu, he was created as a set with Lumaya. Kanlu never had a safe haven for himself in childhood but it is something he gives to Lumaya

Wauker Martikov

My Daggerheart seraph for our Curse of Strahd campaign! I took her name from Wakwak (or Ekek), a vampiric bird-like monster said to eat humans at night!! Or sometimes they're familiars for witches ... She is not a monster who eats humans nor is she anyone's familiar, but idk the themes felt right for a wereraven girl or whatever. (The Martikovs are a family of wereravens in Curse of Strahd, so she was given that last name by my GM. 🙂‍↕️)

Plestia del Bató ("Plesti")

Named after a journalist, writer, and poet, Plestia Alaqad. The name "Plestia" is after the Philistines, a tribe among the first to settle Palestine in antiquity. A shallow comparison here, but Plesti's family are pigeonfolk that settled in the forests of Cormyr, some of the first aarakocras to come down from a nearby mountain. As a person she is also the kind of individual that values her independence and self-ownership. As for 'del Bato'... it means, "of the Rock"... because she is a rock dove. A pigeon lmao. But also, in Ilonggo "bátò" means to resist, oppose, rise up, or backtalk (she is resisting the evils of her patron lich god, who grants her warlock powers). That part is more of a coincidence really (I didn't know her patron would be VECNA 🫪)!

this past week, some friends and i played extra ordinary (by @jaztice kodi gonzaga)

we were kids escaping an evil pharmaceutical that secretly experimented on children to create a super human drug. i made a 9 year old character named cristine who had a natural ability to control gravity.

i really thoroughly enjoyed the world building process and quickly got attached to our little crew. it was amazing playing a gm-less (gm-ful) game. i feel that the creative process of any ttrpg or rpg is always the best part for me -- character creation, world building, story collaboration...

i know some dms/gms dont like taking away the spotlight from players but i am always fond of dmpcs *because* it feels a little bit more like the gm gets to join in on the fun of being a player too... so uh idk! I really liked that we had built the setting ourselves, set the tone, altogether.

not unsimilar to what i did with friends on AIM group chats or gaiaonline (and whatever other forum there was)! but uhh anyway..
