🌹 and 👻!

🌹 - When it comes to headcanons and fleshing out the canon, is there any particular part you like most? (Character backstories, worldbuilding, the supernatural aspects, etc.)

👻 - What is your headcanon / interpretation of whatever the deal is with Ghost’s parents?

I actually already answered the 🌹, but I think I can say more without being repetitive! It’s a lot of fun to see how my interpretations change as I get older and better understand myself and the real world. It makes me feel more comfortable with changing as much as possible, though I do hold dearly onto how I interpret the original canon. Sometimes, things are just a little more impactful if they’re a bit… Different.

Okay 👻 is really easy because I’ve been thinking So long and hard about it for like half a year now.

Gregory has three parents who raised him: T.Casket, Johnny Ghost (Sr.), and Peewee Ghost. T.Casket is his bio father, though he refused to say who the other parent was for reasons he did not explain. Casket died in an incident, and the Ghosts (family friends of T.Casket) took Gregory, now John bc he refuses to answer to anything else after being referred to as a John Doe, in. Ghost Senior died encountering what would later become Jimmy Casket, and Peewee became his sole caretaker. He might be still alive in the ‘current timeline’, but I’m not sure yet. Ghost’s primary issue is his memory, which started becoming really spotty after… something that happened when he was 11 (possessed by Jimmy Casket), so no matter how many times he has his own life explained to him, it’ll always wind up muddled in his head. (Peewee gave up trying to refresh the kid’s memory after realizing the thing possessing his son was using his history to hurt both Gregory and Peewee.) Toast has learned to be patient with him.

So yeah! Basically he’s had three dads, Peewee is a nickname but the man who had it did exist in Ghost’s life, the fact that there are two Johnnies in the house at a time was from J.Ghost Sr. Calling him Mini-Johnny until he got attached to the nickname. Gregory might have been partially supernatural, seeing as T.Casket had an affinity for the supernatural, but he doesn’t really show signs of it.

🧱 - Are there any characters from other media that influence how you write/portray Taleblr characters?

Embarrassing, but not really! Nothing really comes to mind. I mostly just do these things to my own preferences, which might have been learned from other characters, but that wouldn’t necessarily be the same as being influenced overtly. I’m Certain there are things that I’m missing or forgetting about, like people or characters I had in mind when making designs, but as of right now my answer is sadly no.

I can say when making designs and portrayals for characters who were visually based off of a character from another media but with a different voice/name/personality, I try to move as Far away from the original source material as possible. Like, I’ll keep minor references, but I want this stuff to be more. Original or self-sufficient, I suppose, so some characters are anti-influenced haha. Same goes for characters I turned into OCs before Taleblr was a thing— since my characters are more set in stone, I lowkey make tweaks to keep my taleblr interpretations from getting too close to what I made my characters into. Partially why I’ve been avoiding having a ✨Quirky✨ Jimmy Casket… Casper is silly enough for both of them.

[Not characters, but part of the reason why I made Toast’s dad the way that I did was to set the concept up as a way for me to work through this zombie phobia I have. I was told that drawing or writing about the stuff when it’s bothering you can help to process it and work through what the problem is, for one. But really, I wanted to make it as worst-case scenario as possible so people who act like I’m crazy come to understand what’s going through my head when I’m having these occasional paranoid moments. This is why his story is so… gory in nature, and why I haven’t drawn him in awhile: I’ve been avoiding my phobia wayyyy better than usual. The concept of zombies isn’t a character so it’s getting a pocket down here haha…]
