“Nothing’s wrong today... everything’s looking right, okay.”

So far so good, he thought. Introductions with the Black Eagles seemed to have gone relatively painlessly and no one seemed to know him (or speak up) between the more... recognizable students. Turned out it was a good idea to grow his hair a fair amount over the last five years, and even his manner of speaking befitted a commoner more than a blue-blood, or so he felt.

“Taking everything in stride,” Forwin murmured, assuming a stance and pulling at the bowstring until it was taut. Arrowhead eyed the lone training dummy on the other end of the training hall. “The sun is shining in the sky, the birds are smiling and so am I.”

So long as he kept minimal contact with the nobles among the eaglets, Forwin felt he could survive the year. He was a far cry from the lonelier, quieter youth he used to be. Wyndell von Gerth, he was no longer. Only Forwin Tyrell stood.

he knew caspar could be reckless, but that didn’t stop him from worrying. it never got easier seeing him dive head first into action, putting himself in harm’s way without a second thought. ashe knew it was just who caspar was; he was always ready for a fight, always ready to jump in, and part of him did admire that. he did think caspar was exceptionally brave, of course. but he also knew caspar was more likely to put himself in harm’s way, and that scared ashe to death. 

sometimes he swore caspar would make his hair go grey if it wasn’t already. 

it’s uncomfortable to hug a metal suit of armor, but he does anyway, squeezing his eyes shut as he breathes a sigh of relief. 

‘ caspar ! that was too reckless ! you scared me half to death ! ‘

she waited until after the days training had finished to speak with the professor, not unlike five years ago when she had been in their class. she was grateful to be able to continue to learn, she was, even as she had kept up with her training during the five years of the professor’s disappearance. she was grateful but she had some concerns. “professor,” she caught byleth before he could leave. “i wished to talk to you about my training, i know i am having much skill with a sword and bow, and but i do not think i can train for the mortal savant exams. i have no talent for magic.”

The purple, embroidered rose had been a gift.

It wasn’t the only thing Bernadetta had made her over the years since the war, but it was the first, and so Helen would always cherish it the most. She often found herself running her fingers over the edges a tad compulsively, whenever she was nervous, just as she was doing now. (The fact that it was usually pinned over her hart, and thus was usually never touched aside from placing it correctly, was irrelevant to her mind just then.) Green eyes closed as the mage took a deep breath, steeling herself for what she was about to do. It had taken… months to come to this decision, but even having fought a war, this terrified her the most. There was no way her beloved would still want her, or want to be with her, after this. But Bernadetta deserved to know the truth, and to make that choice for herself; Helen couldn’t keep lying – keep hiding, anymore.

Opening her eyes once more, the taller woman placed the embroidered rose on her night table, and stood from her place on the bed. After being with Bernadetta for so long, she had learned to move slowly and carefully, to avoid spooking her lover. It was a skill the ravenette took full advantage of, now, even though procrastinating was usually completely contrary to her nature. Still, she did eventually cross the bedroom they shared, approaching the woman who had – appropriately – sniped her heart all those years ago. The purplette was seated at her vanity, and the older woman took a moment to settle her hands gently on the archer’s shoulders, grounding herself with the touch. Somehow, when she spoke, Helen managed to keep her voice calm and clear. Completely the opposite of how she was shattering inside. She could only hope that her love wouldn’t notice.

“I would… like to discuss something with you, my dear.”

          Despite it being a few years since they had attended the academy, Linhardt never seemed to change. Perhaps in some ways he was different, yet it still wasn’t uncommon to find the mage asleep. Even if one of those times happened to be a war meeting that had taken place early in the morning. So to say that Ferdinand hadn’t felt himself drift off from time to time would’ve been a bit of a lie.

          Still, the cavalier hadn’t expected his afternoon to start off by carrying the sleeping Linhardt on his back. He had been unable to fully rouse him after the meeting had ended and the rest of the Black Eagle Strike Force had filed out. So somehow, on his own offering, he ended up towing him towards the mess hall. His boots clicked on the stone pathing in his attempts to keep himself as steady as possible. Linhardt wasn’t heavy by any means, but he was dead weight on his back as he snored in his ear.

          He could chastise the other once he was more coherent, but he decided that now might be a better time as he passed by the courtyards. So he gives him a bit of a jostle as if to adjust his hold on him in the hopes to finally wake him as he continues to walk.

          “If you continue to sleep like this I fear I may not be able to protect you from Hubert’s wrath for long.” A pause is followed by a sigh. “I understand you tend to sleep quite often for the day, but I can not become your personal horse. Must you really choose to sleep when there are more important matters at hand?”
