She had called Thales’ death a drop of joy amid a pool of sorrow; now, not even one drop remained. Her beloved Lady Edelgard was dead, the Kingdom had triumphed, and Helen? Helen had been inexplicably — horribly, unwantedly — saved. And what made everything worse, was that Her Majesty would’ve been furious if Helen tried to join her.

With suicide off the table, no matter how much the Dark Flier wished she could, it was clear what her only course of action was. To expose and destroy Those Who Slither in the Dark, just as Lady Edelgard had intended, assuming she could make those in charge of the Kingdom believe her. No — Helen would make them believe her.

She had no other choice.
