Gorgeous Fall Colors along the Talimena Scenic Drive. The Drive Runs along a ridge between the towns of Talihina, Oklahoma and Mena, Arkansas. There are lots of scenic overlooks, campgrounds, and other sites of interest along the route. We drove the length of it, staying the night in a cabin in the woods outside Mena, Arkansas. Best dates for foliage vary year to year due to conditions, but generally the last week of October to the first week of November are prime,

Had a great weekend driving the Talimena Scenic Parkway across Southeastern Oklahoma and into Arkansas. Will be posting trip pics this week ( and into next week ), including a visit to this haunted and abandoned Tuberculosis Sanatorium that served the Choctaw Indian and White population in Southeastern Oklahoma from 1920 until 1975.

We didn’t experience anything weird or “other worldly” while there. The place is super creepy though, regardless of the fact that the area is beautiful surrounding it and it was broad daylight. I imagine that in the dark of night it would be even creepier.
I strongly discourage you entering this building if you visit. The rest of the grounds are occupied, although no one bothered us while we visited. The main issue is the dangerous conditions inside due to deterioration of the building structures.
