I have always considered myself to be quite of a shy person, and perhaps some people may believe that I am distant too (and maybe, I indeed am). Because of this I am also quiet, at least most of the time.
Since I was little, I had to learn to be alone, without the company of anyone I could talk to, or someone who would listen to what I had to say. Perhaps that is why now, even as an adult, I prefer to keep most of my opinions and thoughts to myself. It's something I'm used to. To keep my voice quiet.
“I don't think anybody is really interested in what I have to say,” is what I think most of the time before expressing a comment, and therefore, I end up keeping it exclusively for myself, “I have nothing interesting to share.”
This is probably not a healthy thing to do (actually, I'm pretty sure it isn't). After all, expressing ourselves is very important. Our voice was designed to be heard.
But I don't think I've ever been entirely good with words... at least not with spoken ones.
The main reason I like to write is because I feel that this way I can express myself more easily, and even freely. I feel like I can truly convey my thoughts more effectively than orally (or maybe that's just a false perception, a consequence of my eternal cowardice, I don't know).
I like to write, but I doubt if I can really call myself a “writer.”
I like to draw, but I don't think I deserves the title of “artist.”
When I post my creations, I do it without waiting to receive too much (or perhaps, I do wait for too much), trying not to think about how much or how little diffusion it may have (to not be disappointed later on). It's almost like screaming into the void, knowing that no one is going to listen to you.
“I don't think anybody is really interested in what I have to say,” right?
But, recently I have realized that that’s not entirely true, because a simple word can change everything.
I am not very active in terms of the “content” that I create, but, in the last works that I have done, I have had quite pleasant experiences, with positive comments, that leave you with a feeling of satisfaction, because there is actually someone who considers that you’ve done a good job.
Certainly words are double-edged swords, they can harm and they can hurt, but they also have the ability to help and comfort. To inspire.
“I like what you do,” “Good job,” “Awesome!” are comments with a lot of meaning, and have infinite value for anyone who generates and produces any kind of content.
Listening (rather reading) these kind of things can make you really happy, and improve your day infinitely.
Knowing that there is someone supporting you, even if it is only one person, motivates you to continue being productive, to improve in what you do, because there is someone who recognizes you, and also the effort poured into your work.
Writing a small positive and/or encouraging comment on something you like can take just a couple of seconds. So if you have a chance, please do so. A reaction (a like) don’t always have a positive impact, because it can pass like disinterest, instead, a comment indicates that you really took the time to appreciate the content: to read a fic, to observe a drawing, to appreciate the effort of another person.
Because a single word can change everything.
Thanks for your attention. ❤️
