Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby celebrates it's 15th anniversary today

“I’m not going down.” Atem’s face was pouty behind the ski mask.

“I didn’t bring you here to play the cowardly lion, I brought you here so I could kick your ass at downhill skiing.” Seth said.

“Wow, what a challenge…”

“Quit being such a little bitch and go already!” Seth was clearly growing frustrated. He dug his poles into the snow and skated over to Atem.

“Seth, No! I’m serious, I can’t move my arms! What the--?!” Atem was too inept to dodge. “ No no no no no--SETH!! ”

With an abrupt shove, Seth sent Atem careening over the powder and his undignified squeals carried off the ridgeline. Evidently this was enough motivation to give Mahad the courage to follow, albeit with an abundance of caution, and the other three bolted off the block with a heave of speed.

The run opened on a quarter mile straightaway, prime turf for instant acceleration and subprime for a novice desperately struggling to ‘pizza’ his skis to resist downhill gravity. The others hollered at his incompetence as they whizzed past on the piste, save Mahad, still following from a conservative distance with his switchback strategy.

Atem managed to survive the first turn, but only because of the banked, easy curve. The next stretch promised to be worse, narrowing down to half the width coupled with a significantly steeper grade. Helpless against his own momentum, Atem whiffed the drift on the next corner and rocketed head over heels into the plastic guard fence, landing awkwardly on his right arm at likely 50 mph.

He yelped at the pop and excruciating pain that erupted through his shoulder, lying in agony in a soft, fluffy snow dune. Luckily, Mahad witnessed the whole unfortunate affair and saddled up to the broken fence to fish him out of the snow bank. Atem whined and cursed as Mahad tried to wrestle him free.

“Fuck! Don’t touch --OW!! GOD! I can’t move my arm!” Atem surrendered on his back, the mountain top an odd place to behave like a beached whale.

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience? Not that I can think of?

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)? Oh, I love to read drama and hurt/comfort. Give me all of it. I prefer more ensemble-cast adventure gen!fic over shipping most of the time, but ooh I do love me a good ship fic with extra doses of drama and angst - with a happy ending of course. 

As far as writing goes, I love writing slice of life and hurt/comfort, and as I sit here, writing out this reply, do I pretty much realize that a number of my Nerdship prompts are based on almost the same premise/grounding plot. Oh well. Gotta get my content fix somehow!

X: A character you enjoy making suffer. Definitely Seto Kaiba. But there’s almost always a happy ending, so that makes up for it, right?

For your YGO ask: Atem/Yami Yugi!!! 💖

oh boy this is even longer than the last one lol, i’m gonna put it under a read more cause apparently i have some Opinions!

How I feel about this character: i think he’s so great! i especially like any time he has to interact with the “real world” outside of a duel, he’s so awkward and socially unaware, and i really like that aspect of his character. i also like that he has somewhat of a real character arc on the show? not to say that characters don’t grow and develop, but a lot of times on the show (particularly the dub) it feels like every character stays more or less the same (here’s looking at you, kaiba, even though i love you), but atem has a real character flaw in his pride and desire to Win, which, although addressed early in the show, returns later to hurt him, and he has to grow from that! anyway he’s my stilted awkward teen with too much responsibility, and i love him

All the people I ship romantically with this character: i mean, kaiba, obviously. personally i prefer kaiba/yugi actually, just because i like the sweet boy melting the mean boy’s heart, but i cannot deny how much i like the idea of kaiba getting a crush on atem but being like “well obviously i just want to Defeat him because he is my Rival, there’s nothing romantic going on here, obviously, i definitely don’t want to kiss him). tldr the power of rivals to lovers is unmatched

My non-romantic OTP for this character: him and yugi! no disrespect to those that see them romantically, but i like their dynamic more as the Ultimate Friendship! also, i like that they balance each other out; atem is more confident when it comes to dueling and standing up to evil, and yugi is more confident at handling emotional situations and being compassionate, and they both grow and learn from each other via the medium of magically sharing a body!

My unpopular opinion about this character: soooo he definitely needed to apologize to bakura for the whole, you know, Thing with his village back in ancient times, and be held more accountable for the actions of his family and members of the monarchy in general...like obviously he wasn’t directly involved, but if he had seen the corruption inherent in the system and atoned for it as much as he could, you know, maybe he wouldn’t have had to get locked away in a magic puzzle? so yeah there’s my take on that

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i’ve been spoiled for the ending of the show, so you probably can guess the answer for this one...wish he didn’t have to go to the afterlife :( wish he could have stayed and hung out with his friends and got to live a full life :( i know thematically it makes sense or whatever but still :(

Maximilian Pegasus x Lucius Malfoy

Alright, I was slightly more prepared for the oddball crossover ships, but uh....hm. Here goes!

Lupin/Joey:

i don’t know them enough | wtf | why | just NO | tolerable | they’re okay | cute | awww | babies | hot | I will go down with this ship | OTP

Both of them come from rough backgrounds, whether it just be from a poor domestic situation or disgraced from society due to lycanthropy. Joey at least has the support of his second family - his friends, while Lupin is a bit more ostracized. 

However, both are fully willing to fight for the causes they believe in, whether it be fighting for a friend or standing on alongside the Order to fight Voldemort. Due to his condition though, Lupin would be incredibly distant, not wanting to get too close to anyone. His chances to rise in wizard society are slim due to bigoted werewolf legislation, and he wouldn’t want to ruin anyone else’s opportunities just through association. I can see them as friends, but that’s about it.

Pegasus/Lucius Malfoy:

We’re gonna go off and say this is Duelist Kingdom-era Pegasus, and pre-Voldemort’s return Mr. Malfoy, when he was at the height of his power trip. That at least puts them on...an even-ish playing field. 

To put him on a wizarding equivalent, the Millennium Eye essentially makes Pegasus a master of Legilimency. Pegasus wouldn’t need to resort to Lucius’s blackmail and fear-mongering to get what he wants. He’d just use the Eye. If their interests were aligned, they’d make a terrible duo.

However, like the Malfoy/Kaiba thing from the last ask, Lucius is prejudiced against anyone that isn’t of any significant wizard purity. The Millennium Eye probably wouldn’t be enough for these two to hang out and plot evil together.
