Opening Soon! In our Lab gallery, William Engelen: Falten presents a new series of musical scores for percussion made from folded paper. In performing Falten, musicians use the paper’s planes, heights, and structures as parameters for qualities in volume, pitch, rhythm, tension, character, and the spatiality of sound.

This Thursday at 7:30pm (at The Drawing Center) Falten for Percussion consists of eight parts, and will be debuted by the celebrated percussion ensemble Talujon during the evening opening for all our current shows.

This Friday at 8pm Offsite! (at ISSUE Project Room, 22 Boerum Place, Brooklyn) FALTEN / DAMAGED, William Englelen & Aki Onda At this special musical performance presented in collaboration with ISSUE Project Room, celebrated percussion ensemble Talujon will perform William Engelen's recent work Falten, a hybrid of score and sculpture. Percussionist Eli Keszler and the Ashcan Orchestra’s Pat Spadine will perform Aki Onda’s Damaged, in which slide projections from Onda’s ongoing series of New York street photography serve as visual cues for improvisation.   OPENING RECEPTION Thursday, November 21, 6–8pm Filling the Main Gallery, the exhibition Drawing Time, Reading Time features an international group of artists spanning the 1960s to today, all of whom are engaged in exploring the relationship between drawing and writing as distinct yet interrelated gestures. Presented in the Drawing Room,Dickinson/Walser brings together Emily Dickinson’s original poem manuscripts and Robert Walser’s microscripts for the first time. THE GORGEOUS NOTHINGS Book Launch Saturday, November 23, 3–5pm In conjunction with Dickinson/Walser, join us to celebrate the release of The Gorgeous Nothings: Emily Dickinson's Envelope-Poems, published by New Directions and Christine Burgin. The Gorgeous Nothings is the first full-color publication of Emily Dickinson's envelope writings in facsimile from her visually stunning manuscripts. Remarks by editors Marta Werner and Jen Bervin will begin at 3:30pm. Renowned poet and Dickinson scholar Susan Howe will introduce the editors and, following their remarks, Walser translator Susan Bernofsky will speak about her work with Walser and New Directions/Christine Burgin. talujon performs their own "their four and sow three". saw them perofrming at mannes a couple of weeks ago and this piece uses the coolest instrument: an amplified udu drum.
