Now this place? He didn’t recognise at all. The young Tamatoa eyed his surroundings with puzzlement marred with annoyance and trudged on, dragging a freshly killed bat along with him as a travel snack. (starter from Tamatoafrombefore-a)
High in a cliff, a dragon poked around the inside of a cave made out of a massive jagged fissure. There was some kind of lizard monster lying dead in the corner, splayed out in a pool of dark orange blood that spilled from several brutal wounds along its throat, shoulders, and underside. It was little more than half his size and attacked him upon landing, so of course he defended himself and made the insufferable little pest pay.
And now the cave was vacant. What luck. He had been looking for a place where he and his sister could set up here in Lalotai when they weren’t home on the surface or busy serving as Tamatoa’s guards. Of course, she stayed with the monster crab more often, but it didn’t hurt to have a back up plan.
This cave was well out of the way of almost all monsters looking to intrude, well within the territory, and the king’s lair was in clear view roughly eight miles away. It was perfect, save for that bloody carcass. I’ll clean that up before bringing Kate here, he thought dismissively.
He looked out over the jungle of coral trees and low bushes. Formations of boulders and rocks were scattered amongst the terrain, thinning out what would otherwise be a dense area. So he was easily able to spot a crab walking by, dragging a kill along with it. The creature was sizable, about seven feet taller than the dragon was.
His eyes narrowed. Plenty of other monsters wandered through Tamatoa’s territory, but not many that looked so similar to the king himself. Perhaps it would be a good idea to go take a look.
Spreading his wings, he took off from the ledge in front of the cave.
