Daily Instrument — Tambin
The tambin is an African flute of the Fula people of West Africa. The instrument is made of a conical vine with three finger holes. Despite the small amount of figner holes, the tambin has a range of two and a half octaves through overblowing. Overblowing changes the register of a note by increasing the air pressure.

Baba Gallé Kanté comes from Guinea-Conakry and is a master of the Fula or Fulani flute, a transverse flute that is also known as " tambin". The most striking characteristic of the Fula flute is the voice/flute effect - the performer sings into the instrument at the octave with the blown notes, creating a very powerful and expressive sound. The instrument has a rectangular embouchure, giving it a very special sonority and helping produce strong harmonics.

Instruments: Fula flute
The Fula flute, also called tambin, is the national instrument of the Fula people, one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa.
It is made from a conical vine, tapering inwards towards the end of the instrument. As can be seen in the photo above, it is usually played at a 45-degree angle. The embouchure is rectangular, and has two wings on either side.
While the range of the traditional Fula flute covers two and a half octaves, not all of these notes are actually playable. The upper fifth of the lowest octave is missing, disconnecting the lower register from the rest of the scale:
