“How do you always manage to look so captivating?” For dex and tam!
Tam swore he was trying to pay attention. No, really. It was probably important that he pay attention to Dex’s explanation of how to use the new tech he’d just built for him.
And in a manner of speaking, Tam was paying attention. Just, uh...not to the explanation. That was the thing. It was Dex trying to explain how to use the tech. Dex. And Tam had a sort of weakness when it came to Dex Dizznee.
He had a hard time not paying attention; just to different things. Like the little tic where Dex would scrape his hair back off his forehead in between parts of the explanation. Or the tiniest way his nose would wrinkle when he was clicking a part of the gadget into place. Or the way Dex had a few more freckles smattered across his nose and cheeks than before, because they’d spent the other day out in the sun. And the dimples, of course, but that went without saying.
These were all very important things to pay attention to, as well, Tam believed. Just...maybe not as important as the explanation.
“...hear a word I just said, did you.”
“Hm?” Tam asked, propping his chin up in his hand. “What was that?”
Dex closed his eyes and smiled, shaking his head. “I don’t get it. I made sure I wasn’t getting too techy with my explanation this time. Where did I lose you? What happened?”
“I heard the first part,” Tam insisted, “but then you, uh, smiled, and...”
Dex groaned goodnaturedly, tilting his head up and putting his hands over his face.
“I can’t be blamed!” Tam protested. “You just. You’re so captivating! How do you always manage to look so captivating?”
“You suck,” Dex sighed, but his ears were pink.
“Just. Just one more time,” Tam said, sitting up and staring very intently at the gadget on the table. “I won’t look at you, and I won’t get distracted. Just one more time. Three times the charm.”
“You are so lucky I like you,” Dex muttered, launching into his explanation again.
Tam retained it this time. But only because Dex stopped after every step and made him repeat it back.
