Woman Crushing [it] Wednesday - Tamra Davis Edition
I was watching Billy Madison last night as I do from time to time and I noticed it was directed by a woman! This got me pretty pumped so I researched the woman who directed Billy Madison: Tamra Davis.
Not only did she direct one of my favorite movies of all time, she studied directing under Francis Ford Coppola before going to film school at LACC by his advisement. She has been married to Mike D of The Beastie Boys since 1993.
She has a cook book, Make Me Something Good to Eat and an adorable online cooking show www.tamradaviscooking.com that features her children helping with easy, health conscious recipes.
Some of her other exciting directing credits include:
MmmBop (She got her start directing music videos she also has directed videos for Depeche Mode, NWA, Sonic Youth, The Indigo Girls, The Bangles and Black Flag)
Episodes of: Ugly Betty, Greys Anatomy, My Name is Earl
Guncrazy (this film got Drew Barrymore a Golden Globe Best Actress nomination)
Tamra Davis also directed and supplied her personal footage of her deceased friend for her documentary: Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child. The film documents her friend’s climb from being a homeless poet and grafiti artist to becoming an internationally famous artist with a heart breaking passing.
So to recap, Tamra Davis has 2 gorgeous sons; has been married to a Beastie Boy for 22 years; has directed some cult favorite films and famous comedians including: Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle and the lady can cook! All with a Los Angeles Community College education.
Color me inspired. Check back next week for more woman who are CRUSHING it.
