Im Tangkoko Nationalpark sind wir dann auf Djungeltour gegangen. Wer das Wappentier Nordsulawesi´s den Kobaldmaki sichten will, dem bleibt nichts anderes übrig als um 4.30 in den Urwald zu marschieren und am besten ein paar Grashüpfer dabei zu haben. Kobaldmakis sind übrigens die einzigen rein fleischfressenden Affen der Welt. Im Nationalpark leben neben Kobaldmakis auch noch Kakadus, Hirscheber, Pythons, schwarze Macacen und und und. Den Cuscus Bär haben wir im Tangkoko leider nicht gesehen, dafür aber ein paar Tage später im Bus!

One of the problems of photographing the macaques of Sulawesi is that they often get too close for long lenses. The black volcanic sand gets into everything, making changing lenses halfway through a real issue. Apart from a lot of marine life, we also have some special fauna on land. One of them is the Sulawesi Crested Black Macaque (Macaca nigres). There are in fact 7 different species and only found in Sulawesi. Unfortunately, it is critically endangered, specially the one we have in our region. The reasons are mainly that they have been heavily hunted for food in the past in combination with habitat loss. In Tangkoko Forest Nature Reserve, they are relative save and is the population growing. We organize excursion to the park and the Macaques are almost an almost 100% guarantee. One of them became very famous in 2011 when he grabbed the camera of a photographer and made a selfie (see second pic). Unintentionally, the monkey caused an international row when court cases were started between the owner of the camera and animal rights activists. The camera owner claimed the copy rights of the picture but the the activists thought they belonged to the monkey. The amazing little tarsier. This nocturnal primate has huge eyes to see their prey, insects, in the darkness of a night in the rainforest.
