Realistically Tanigaki is one of the scariest characters in Golden Kamuy and the only reason this aspect of his character isn't explored more by this fandom is for two reasons: 1. he has an incredible sense of empathy that makes him very loving (and lovable) and 2. Noda loves slutting him out.

Because ultimately it's his empathy that makes him so scary because if you wrong someone he cares about he will hunt you down to the ends of the earth to kill you (Kenkichi, Kiroranke) and, by that metric, if you help him or he comes to care for you he will lay down his life to be there in your time of need (Asirpa, Huci, Inkarmat, Nihei, Beniko, Cikapasi).

It's his sense of deep empathy that makes his dynamic with Ogata that much more interesting because Ogata refuses to empathize with anyone as doing so would force him to think outside of his own perspective when he believes everyone should think exactly like him. So when they're around each other it's a match up with the most empathetic character vs. the least empathetic character in the manga.

That's why Ogata singles him out and tortures him all the time but it's not just for conflict sake, it's because Tanigaki empathizes with his situation. He looks visibly uncomfortable when Tsukishima brings up the fact that Ogata was being harassed by his fellow soldiers for being the son of geisha. Tanigaki empathizes with Ogata and Ogata goes out of his way to punish him for caring. That's why Otani as a ship hits so hard.

Anyways long story short Otani is thee gk ship of all time and y'all are missing out

sugimotos group ICE SKATING hcs ⛸️

part 1: 7th division, this is part 2, part 3: hijikatas group tags: ice skating, this is just for shits and giggles... Sugimoto: - first time skating but grasps it very quickly and turns out to be good - more than willing to push Asirpa around on one of those penguin-supports - doesnt have stopping down properly so he crashes into the rink-walls

Asirpa: - will gladly be pushed around by Sugimoto on one of those penguin-supports - even though shes a pretty good skater!! - the penguin has no brain, sorry : (

Shiraishi: - uses one of those supports meant to help children learn to skate (like the cool penguins or polar bears) - might let sugimoto use it ^ - will try rizzing up any baddie ice skater but falls on his ass

Tanigaki: - is not good at all but wont give up and keeps practicing - Inkarmat helps him out : ) - feels bad for "burdening" Inkarmat with helping him

Inkarmat: - gladly helps Tanigaki learn ice-skating - is really good at skating - will treat the others to the rinks food (its not good)

Kiroranke: - you'd expect him to be good at this but he's not - total clutz - would rather have gone horsebackriding

Cikapasi: - first time ice skating - determined to get really good! - gets help from Inkarmat aswell

Vasily: - very good skater, might've done figure skating or something - gorgeous skating style - very humble about it Boutarou: - acts like he's really good but he's actually just alright at it - still better than shiraishi tho bonus Nihei: - he definitely has some history with skating - played ice hockey at some point in his life - very confident on the ice
