“You wanna talk to her?” Domitia whispered quietly, Tanner’s gaze didn’t dare look away from the girl from Seven as if afraid she’d disappear. Pup’s tribute is too enraptured with her district partner to notice, there is something tense in her stance, something uncomfortable that the mentor can’t place. She chuckled at the awestruck look on her tribute’s face, perhaps Pup’s little idea of an alliance would be profitable.
Now, that would make most sense given the girl’s obvious strength. Better she ally with another strong tribute, so that they could both pull through and all that.
“I… What if she doesn’t wanna talk to me?” There is a tremble to his voice as the boy from Seven settled his head on the girl’s shoulder. Whispering something to her as Pup’s tribute hid what could only be a smile beneath her hand. Coy and sweet, as if in reference to something only she knew. Glancing back at her tribute she knows he is lost.
Lost in his own thoughts of this peculiar girl who drew his interest; Domitia takes a breath and managed the best smile she can. If it was going to happen then let her tribute make the first move.
Better the factor she knew than the one she didn’t.
“Go on,” her voice is soft and she gestured toward the girl, Tanner inhaled sharply and nodded. Pup’s steps seemed to echo as the other mentor knows his presence long before he settled himself down across the bars. His girl is still distracted by Vipsania’s boy, before she finally seemed to notice Tanner—she paused and tilted her head curiously. Her own boy looked so utterly lost as Pup’s girl offered the tiniest of smiles to him.
It was actually quite sweet to see. Tanner began to move decision obviously made as Domitia clears her throat. “Tanner!” Her voice is sharper than she’d like, as she anxiously wrung her hands together and finally sighed, annoyed, defeated. “Don’t… Don’t come on too strong.”
Her boy wore his heart on his sleeve, it was natural she had some concerns because of it. Her tribute just nods and hastily scrambled to his feet; eyes boring into him as he moved towards the pair from Seven. She hears Pup stop next to her as he too seemed enraptured by this strange little display.
Tanner stops in front of the girl just as she looked up, Domitia doesn’t know what they say. Just that the girl leaned forward a teasing smile on her face and her district partner swiftly got up and left at that. Clearly, whatever the girl had said had rattled him somewhat.
“So…” Domitia begins with a small grin, “about our tributes being allies?”
Pup huffed and turned back towards that girl of his, “If she’s alright with it then I see no problem.”
“I think the way their conversation hints towards it right?” Her classmate looked less than impressed but said nothing. Just fixed his attention back towards their tributes; his little fighter and her butcher. They made for an odd pair, but one that could be the most interesting to see in the Arena.
“What are we going to do about Vip’s boy? He could prove a problem.” Pup grumbled, clearly dissatisfied with his girl’s fondness for their friends own tribute.
“You heard Vip when she was complaining,” Domitia said with a grin. “Her boy has never worked in the lumberyards—not like that girl of yours. It won’t be that hard to convince that your girl to ditch him if he’s dead weight.”
“Lamina’s stubborn.” Pup began uncomfortably, “Maybe that boy of yours can be of some assistance there. Knock some sense into her?”
Domitia hummed and sighed, “Maybe…”
Only time would tell really, just how this whole thing between Tanner and Pup’s girl would turn out still Domitia couldn’t help but root for them. Even if she knew they’d likely end in tragedy, it was nice to hope perhaps.
