hi so i was in dp1 and got 40 points in my finals but now i feel like i can't continue (i have the lit in trans essay and history ia and biology ia and french hl written task and EXTENDED ESSAY all due by the end of this month). i really don't have the energy and will to do anything. was thinking about dropping to certificate, but i want to study in canada on scholarship. what should i do?

Wow, not going to lie, that a lot to do! If you really want to do it, you can. Make a study plan, block distracting sites using chrome extensions (I love StayFocused), and buckle down. You’ve already done DP1! You’re so close!! Obviously with a  40 you did really well too :D

However, if it’s a serious mental health problem of lacking energy and motivation, talk to your parents and your teachers. There’s no shame in dropping out of the diploma program to take care of yourself. 

If it’s just a matter of dedication, motivation, and procrastination, I would suggest doing it. Doing IB can only help your chances of studying in Canada. Again, try talking with your coordinator, teachers, and parents and be honest with them to try to work out alternate deadlines or extensions. Energy wise, make sure you’re eating right and getting the right amount of and restful sleep.

Look, I don’t know you and I don’t know your particular situation, but the IBDP is a great resource and a great opportunity. It’s not too late especially if you communicate with your teachers. Just take care of yourself in the process. Let me know how everything goes?

omg okay okay okay so there's this little boy on my bus and he's so obnoxious and loud and every afternoon is a struggle to get him to not scream because he talks so loudly that nothing can block him out and as usual i was like DUDE STOP TALKING and he was like I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK, YOU DON'T MATTER THE ONLY PERSON THAT MATTERS IS ME, and me being me, i said, I DON'T MATTER, YOU DON'T MATTER AND THE WORLD IS MEANINGLESS SO PLEASE WILL YOU SIT DOWN AND STOP SCREAMING and i kid you not, the entire bus just turned to look at me and this one kid goes "life isn't meaningless" and omg i have to stop casually saying these things

Hi! I'm thinking of becoming a History Major and I would like to know what skills I should have and what I should be interested in to do it. I like events and details but may be deterred by reading sometimes and, honestly, other people. what is life like as one?

Oh hai~

You can be interested in anything to be a history major! If you like knowing where stuff came from and why it’s like how it is today, history is right up your alley! You don’t have to focus on the history of one thing or one part of the world (but it does make it easier). For instance I enjoy learning about World War II and Italian history.

Honestly, I feel you. I don’t particularly like other people either. But I find it interesting to find out where people came from, what made a country do xyz, why certain people are viewed in such a way, etc. I think of it as one big story.

As for skills…I guess you have to have a good memory. Stuff can get confusing depending on what you’re studying. You have to have the ability to imagine what life was for people at the time you’re studying. A lot of history majors get into trouble when they forget that things weren’t always the same as they are now. I know you’re probably thinking, “Well isn’t that obvious?”. Sometimes we forget they had different beliefs, customs, etc.

Reading. Now that’s something that is highly important. I’m a junior going into senior in college and as soon as I declared I was a history major it has been nothing but reading for me. I’ve had professors that were understanding that their class wasn’t the only thing going on so they would assign lighter readings, but I’ve also had professors that think their class held the answers to life itself and needed my full attention. I’m not going to sugar coat it—-it’s a lot of reading. A LOT. Other majors get experiments and math problem worksheets. History majors get assigned books and thesis papers.

It’s a lot of work at times but I enjoy history. It’s a lot more than just sitting in a library amongst books (I find that appealing though). We are a major that can be connected to many other fields. We become investigators, interviewers and story tellers. I hope all of this helped you (sorry my explainations got a little long) !
