“Cut from the Same Cloth” in Taproot Magazine)
My personal essay and a sidebar tutorial on whole-cloth quilting, are included in Taproot Magazine’s November/December 2020 issue, on the theme of calm. The piece is dedicated to my mom and our relationship through craft.
Taproot is an ad-free, independent magazine available by subscription, at select independent stockists and libraries, and in their online shop.

My illustrations for Schirin Oeding’s essay, Seeds of Home, in Taproot Magazine’s Sept. 2017 issue, TRADE. In the essay, Oeding talks about her personal experience working with Middle Eastern refugees while she was living in Germany. Oeding, a graduate student of ecological agriculture, volunteered in programs which hoped to foster community through small-scale agriculture and cooking. In scientific yet sensitive detail, the essay takes on what an integral part food and farming can play in our cultural identity-- both in the global historicity of small-scale sustainable agriculture and the intimate feelings of homesickness when people are separated from the comfort of their native foods.

Cover illustration for Taproot Magazine, MYTH, issue 17. So excited to share that I'm Taproot's 2016 cover artist, and this is the first of four covers I'll be illustrating for them. For MYTH, I focused on folklore like the tortoise and the hare, mythology like the golden apple and pan flute, and imagery of magic and luck, like the wishbone and mugwort.
