our trip to Tar-zhay
Welcome to My New Blog!!!
There are very few things in life that break cultural barriers or unify all people, anywhere in the world. Between war, politics, religious beliefs and so on, it is not difficult to see why we as a world tend to confine ourselves within the comfort of our own cultures rather than seeking out the mystery and the magic that lies within others. Yet each year, designers, models, celebrities and average Joes alike come together in different parts of the world to celebrate one art form that speaks to all masses in one way or another; the art of fashion. It is with much certainty that I can say (from experience) that there are also many people who think fashion is "vein" or "trivial" or just flat out "silly". But when in conversation, both casual and professional, these words have been thrown in my direction, I am happy to try to open people's eyes to a different perspective. As a woman, there are very few things that you will remain in love with all your life and this is not because you are indecisive or a flake, it is just simply the truth about getting older. But when I come across a woman who I would classify as a fashion skeptic, I ask them to take a trip down memory lane. When you were a kid, what was the outfit you couldn't wear enough? What pair of jeans were your favorite in middle school? What color was the dress you wore to the senior prom? What did you wear to your first post college interview? What designer made your wedding dress?....and so on and so forth. Within minutes, these so called fashion skeptics catch my angle; without knowing it or intending to do so, they realize that they too have fallen in love with a pair of shoes, a beautiful red handbag or that perfect pair of skinny jeans, at one time or another. Don't believe me? Well just for arguments sake, I opened up this discussion to my mom. Now, the woman knows how to dress, but she could supposedly "care less" about fashion, so of course she dismissed me and my notion that every woman has had the fashion bug (no pun intended). About an hour later into the evening, my mom said to me, "Middle school, 1967". I looked at her with a face that said, "You lost me". She then proceeded to tell me that she had begged her mother, my grandmother, to by her white, mid-calf length, leather go-go boots and that she wore them a countless number of times. I laughed, very amused but then wanted to know why, not expecting the answer I got. "I liked how they made me feel" she said. "Hot, cool, important." Well I'll be damned...she had the bug in her after all. My point is not that everyone should go ask their mom for go-go boots from the sixties (seriously, they were straight up hooker worthy boots), it's that whether you would publicly admit or not, there is at least one point in a woman's life where she was made exceedingly happy by a "trivial" and "silly" piece of fashion merchandise. This leads me to welcoming you all to my blog From Tar-zhay to Runway; celebrating all things fashion and the women who wear it! This has been a dream of mine for quite some time and I am hoping that you will all take this journey with me. I will be posting photos, essays, reviews and other fashion information on a regular basis regarding clothing, accessories, shoes, bags, designer collections, make-up, etc. all from, you guessed it, Tar-zhay (nickname of Target for you newly fashionable ladies) all the way to the Runway. So put on your best pair of heels, walk down that fabulous runway of life and get those hands ready to click "Follow"...cause it's gonna be a fashionable ride. ;-)
