Hi I got a question about your character Silas, or rather how you painted him. I was going to do something similar to a doll head I just purchased can you give me any tips on spray painting? I'm kind of nervous doing it to such an expensive head. Thanks
Hello :) The spray paint I used is acrylic based and removable with color thinner or nail polish remover, but I'm not entirely sure if it wouldn't leave stains in a longer period of time (but since I'm not planning on removing it from the legs I don't really care). Just that as a word of warning beforehand :) Generally about spray panting - don't use spray paints that are for street art/graffitti, because they are thicker and tend to drip easily. I've used car spray paint, and it worked fine :) I'm sure other art spray paints could work fine too. Okay and now to tips with doing spray painting:
Do it outdoors, wear a mask.
Give the head/the parts some layers of purity seal/Mr Super Clear beforehand.
Make it layer by layer, don't rush it. That stuff dries rather quick - give it a few minutes between each layer. A layer does NOT mean that the color is already covering up every part of it - it will be just little dots at the beginning, but the more layers you add, the more opaque it will get.
Don't touch it until its really dry.
If you go with metallic colors (like me), you need to add a few more layers of gloss varnish to not make the metallic particles fade away. I don't think you have to do that with normal/matte colors though...
Thats.. .well everything I can think off. Followers, anybody with tips on that matter?
