People in general: "Jennifer Lawrence looks badass in The Hunger Games!"
Archers: "Yeah ok you can't shoot shit pulling a bow like that. You'd think they would've at least bothered to give her some archery lessons."

I am now the proud owner of a beautiful recurve bow. Lancaster Archery Supply had some pretty good Black Friday deals, so today was as good a time as any. 🏹
I picked two sports that are the paradigm of "less is more" and "letting go of control is having control". 🏹🏇🏻
I have successfully unstrung and restrung my bow using my bow stringer!
It always makes me chuckle how much pop culture and western media love to sexualize both of my sports, when in reality we archers and equestrians on a regular basis are concerned with two things: to not sweat our tits off in summer and to not freeze our tits off in winter.
Like, sure, I'll ride in a dress and shoot in a corset, no problem. I can look like I'm straight out of Outlander. But no, not all the time. Looking sexy is simply too impractical when it comes to riding or shooting or both at the same time.
One thing for certain: my ancestors were not world famous for their mounted archery by being sexy about it.
P. S.: if anybody ever suggests I try riding sidesaddle because it looks "classy" in Downton Abbey I will bite them.
I suppose no archer can escape a drawing arm injury at some point.
Ortho doc diagnosed a tendon injury in my right shoulder and put me on rest for 3 weeks, no pulling a bow allowed.
Which is torture now that the weather is starting to warm up and the forecast is looking like perfect outdoor shooting weather this weekend and next week.
But if I want to be up for outdoor competition season this summer, I need to rest this shoulder now and let it heal for good or else. When I first hurt it this past autumn, I didn't give it enough time to actually get better enough.
Looking on the bright side though, at least it's not a rotator cuff injury.
I have a private archery lesson scheduled for the second week of January. I can't wait to meet my new coach!
While target practicing in the driveway with my recurve bow and quiver of arrows, a group of runners jogged by, one of them called out "Katniss Everdeen!" at me, which put a smile on my face. 🏹🔥
