It was rare for Little Phil to be awake before his mother, considering how prompt she was with getting up in the mornings. He’d had a nightmare, though, and he couldn’t force himself to go back to sleep (and he’d tried. And tried. And tried for hours on end with no success). He didn’t want to worry her, though; in his mind, she’d done enough worrying in her life to have to worry for him after a little nightmare. So, he found his way into his mother’s room, climbing up on the bed like he had when he was younger, sitting down next to his mother. He pressed a little kiss to her forehead, a bright smile on his face to hide the reason he was awake so early. “Good morning, Momma...!”

That’s......disgusting.  She would not do that. 

I don’t even want to know what circumstances one would be in to have to make that determination.

I grew up with three brothers and this is not a thing that ever happened!

“Ma, I don’t want to go with dad this weekend...”  James sat on the stairs of the house, back pack of clothes and some of his video games.  His friends at school had discouraged it, saying that it wouldn’t be fun, that dads always seemed to act weird on a visitation day, describing their fathers as wooden and like a stranger.  James dreaded that, he dreaded so much with the divorce, other friends said they never saw their dads.  Everything was changing and James didn’t want to see the change.  “I mean, it’s not like he’s even gonna wanna see me in a month or two, why waste the gas money?”
