Someone beat me to an Arcane tarot fanart project, but I'll still do mine. After all, one of the things I love about collecting tarot decks is that there are so many variations on the same motifs. ^_^

We even both choose Jayce as the Fool. <3 I like that they picked survivor Jayce though. Actually we choose the same characters for the first 3 cards.

I love that they did 2 versions of The Lovers. 1 for CaitVi and 1 for JayVik. <3

And I love that Sky is The Star. <3

Why Fools Make Timeless Heroes by Squampopulous

This video essay reminded me of how some interpret the order of the Major Arcana to be a narrative of the Fool journeying from naive to worldly. The Major Arcana literally ends with The World card (according to some interpretations). Personally, I do like to look at the Major Arcana as a narrative with The Fool as the protagonist.

Just found out there's an official Street Fighter tarot deck, from their 30th anniversary merch.

I like that Elena is a cupid angel on the Lovers card, instead of trying to depict 2 lovers. I've never seen angel on the Lovers card get the full focus before. It's really interesting.

And I like the Art Nouveau backgrounds.

After all that confusion, trying to figure this out last year, I think I've finally got it.

Maybe now I'll finally be able to draw a Jayce Fool's Journey Tarot. Then I could get to a Fool's Journey Tarot for Viktor.

Some things are non-chronological, but I tried to go mostly in order.

And because this project of mine is a tarot revolving around Jayce's story, most cards are more centered around plot events in Jayce's story, rather than the cards' archetypes' parallels with Arcane characters. Characters who are chosen to represent archetypes from the cards, are primarily in relation to Jayce. (For example, Caitlyn becomes an authority figure, especially in season 2, and therefore sounds suited to the Emperor card. But in relation to Jayce, she is his friend that keeps him in check, reminds him who he is, when he starts implying a Hextech war vs Zaun. And she is his friend that he would support with Hextech weapons, if she asked, regardless of how conflicted he is about it. So in this desk, I would put not put Caitlyn as the Emperor. But I put Cassandra Kiramman as the Emperor, because she is that authority figure who reinforces rules, TO JAYCE.)

It's not just whimsy. It's also one of the age-old, "collective unconscious"'s story formats.

At the end of the tarot "Fool's journey", he's supposed to end up in a place that parallels his starting point, around the start of his story. But this time, with new eyes. Everything is the same as before, but also different, because he has grown.

It's a story format that most human minds find satisfying and speaks to "the universal human experience". If you don't find it satisfying, you're in the minority.
