🏛 A new semester is starting for most of us. It’s important for us as students to know the facilities offered at our campus and their purpose. Here’s six: 1️⃣ Library - This place will be your best friend when in college and university. They not only serve as a great place to study - but also, has tonnes of resources. 2️⃣ Career Centre - Have you decided your own career pathway? Don't worry! Thankfully, every college or university has a career centre. At the career centre, you would be able to discuss with an advisor about career options. 3️⃣ Student Success Centre - If you're a struggling academically, the academic success centre will definitely be of help to you. I personally have not visited them yet, but I've heard from peers that they give really good advises on how to study and maintain good grades. It's good to pay the Student Success Centre a visit if you're fresh out of high school, as they would be able to advice your how to deal with college and tackling assignments.  4️⃣ Student Legal Centre - If you're in need of legal help, head over to the student legal services. They can help with everything from roommate contracts and landlord disputes to traffic tickets and automobile accidents.  5️⃣ Counselling Centre - At the beginning, college can be a little stressful - and there is no doubt about that. When you mix in a part-time job and organizations with all your school work, it can be downright overwhelming. The Student Counseling Services can help you. They offer personal counseling as well as other counseling services like couple counseling and career counseling.  6️⃣ The IT Department - If you're a college or even a degree student, there's a high chance that you have a computer or carry around a laptop. If you're degree programme requires you to have certain softwares like Adobe, you definitely need to get it and there's no doubt about it - but getting it outside may be a little pricey.  Do keep in mind that these are campus resources at the University that I’m attending. It may differ from uni-to-uni, and even country-to-country.

Anatomy has definitely got to be one of my weakest modules in medical school. Throughout my first year, I’ve struggled with finding the right study method for this module. But, after months of searching for the right method, I finally settled on a specific study routine that I now practise every time for Anatomy.

How do I study for Anatomy?

1️⃣ Take Notes during the Lecture 2️⃣ Rewrite Notes after the Lecture - Rewriting notes or summarising the chapter has definitely helped me the most. You’ll be consolidating your knowledge, reinforcing it in your brain and creating much nicer copies of your notes, which will be great to study from, but this really can be applied to most classes. 3️⃣ Make Flashcards (or a Table) - It’s no doubt that Anatomy requires tonnes of memorization, so be diligent with your flashcards. It doesn’t have to be a physical flashcard. Quizlet is an online platform that allows us to create flashcards.  Another method I’ve began using is the ‘Table’ method, and it looks something like this:

4️⃣ Gain Better Knowledge through Mnemonics - Studying anatomy and physiology involves remembering lists of terms, functions, and processes. You can take just the first letter or two of each word from a list to create an acronym. Occasionally, you can go one step beyond the acronym to a clever little thing called a mnemonic device.

Tips!

Start Studying Early! As soon as the semester starts, there’s a lot to learn. And, in Anatomy, there’s definitely a lot of remembering, so keep on top of your work and never let it overwhelm you! Start making your notes and flashcards, as soon as you’ve learned the material in class.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! If you’re ever in doubt, don’t be scared to see your lecturer or ask your peers for help or explanations if you need.

Be confident! You can do anything if you put your mind to it. Never give up & keep working hard!
