The plants station was needlessly overwhelming. There was simply no way to know all the varied plants, or which ones would actually appear in any specific Arena. Court already knew about the ones from D10, but was it worth it to learn about all of them?

He glanced sideways as he was approached by another Tribute. His sleeve marked him as from District Seven - just Court's luck. He was probably already going to know everything there was about plant life. "D'you think this is even worth it? What are the chances they'd do another outdoor Arena back-to-back?"

TASK 005: THRILLS

Nanni definitely isn't an adrenaline junkie, what excites her can vary from a new pair of shoes, to a dress, to shoes or even hearing gossip about someone she disliked. Material things had always brought her joy, relishing in being envied by her classmates for whatever new thing she wore that day.

task oo5. thrills

Lee Hatchett has always been a connoisseur of the cozy. Whether it is exploring the softest woven fabrics, making reservations at fancy tea houses, or huffing the latest seasonal candle scents, Lee is always down for a wrapped up and warm party. He isn't a big thrills guy - he much prefers the thrills of a good book and blanket than of fast cars and explosions.

He likes his arts when he can get them, though he has found mental stimulation through art to be woefully lacking in both Seven and the Capitol, the two places he frequents most. He fancies himself a guitarist, and every now and then a bit of a vocalist, but he feels most excited in a group of locals, playing traditional Seven songs and sharing stories through music. He finds deep comfort in being known by a select few - and perhaps finds a bit of a negative thrill (or, perhaps, chill?) when he is recognized by people he doesn't know. Celebrity holds no warm place in his heart.

Lee isn't a drinker; he gave up alcohol shortly after his Games and has been sober since. He does, however, indulge in drugs when offered. Whether tripping on a mind-bending hallucinogenic or vegging out with some sort of mellowing agent, Lee enjoys the occasional altered state of being. He hasn't touched Morphling, though, knowing the extreme addictive qualities it possesses. But he finds a certain amount of thrill in keeping up with whatever is being passed around the Capitol; they know how to turn a drug out that won't ruin a person's life.

task oo5. thrills

Oxford has never been much of a thrill seeker. In fact, he's quite the opposite - he longs for simplicity and monotony. He has always looked for things that relax, still, or comfort him, choosing to work out any flights of spontaneity in the fields of work.

It's not to say things can't excite him - he's been known to throw around a partner or two on a dance floor at local gatherings, or to find groups of friends at a bonfire for drinks and stories. But to call these things "thrills" is perhaps a bit of an overstatement; he seems them simply as ways to blow off steam and bond with his community.

Perhaps it is from a lack of exposure, though. Ox hasn't exactly had a chance to explore the various ways people seek thrills; life in District Nine isn't exactly built for that kind of person. But even when he hears stories of grand adventures and climbing mountains and vast oceans, he finds himself erring away from them. He's just as happy - if not more so - imagining a small home, building a family, and working hard until he retires or dies. That, in its own way, is a thrill all of its own.

While Courtney had no problem being from District Ten, he hated having the number branded on his bicep like a beacon. He was busy taking out his frustration on a punching bag, trying his best to use it as a shield to keep his form out of sight from the rest of the Tributes, and acutely aware that the viewing gallery for Sponsors and Mentors saw all.

He was by no means a trained boxer, but growing up with younger siblings had taught him how to throw a punch or two, and the repetitive motion of fist against bag kept him in a semi-sane mindset as others around him trained in various ways to kill him. And of course, it was then that One approached him. He glanced up for a moment before piling into the punching bag, grunting with the effort and hoping she'd leave him alone - but sensing she would not.
