Task 5. All the internet is a stage.
Here you'll have to give the best of you and record yourselves reciting any famous quotation from any play by William Shakespeare. Remember to sound passionate and with rhythm!! You are given a lovely example. If music be the food of love play on!!
Task 4. If you participate do I not rejoice?
Although some of you prefer to write I'd much rather you to recite!! Below there is a link to a scene from a cinema adaptation of "The Merchant of Venice". It is the scene depicting the famous soliloquy by Shylock. The task to do is to record yourselves reciting one or two verses from the speech (any verses included in the subtitles of one frameshot). Go and begin performing Shakespeare yourselves!! To be fair with you I'll post some a recording of the whole soliloquy made by me.
Task 3. Though this be madness, yet there is method in't, ain't?
Here there is the superfamous speech uttered by Lord Macbeth in the play Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 5. You'll see that it can be rather abstract and strange at first sight. The task to do is for you to read it and explain briefly what does it mean for you. We are not asking to give the "canonical" meaning, just what it comes to your mind when reading it. 20-30 words may be more than enough.
Task 2. Give every man thy ear but few (like this blog) thy voice
There are tones of film scenes based on Shakespeare's plays on the internet. Please watch some and choose one line of speech that catches your attention for any reason. Paste it on the comments and explain why you chose it.
As an example I will show you how magnificently sounds the roar of Marc Anthony (played by Marlon Brando) when he acknowledges the fatality of Julius Caesar's murder. Just the same way I feel when I realise the yogurts are expired. Beware of the dogs of war!!
How many Shakespeare plays have you read/seen?
Zero, only know his works from cultural osmosis
1-4, typical of what you would've read in school
5-10, burgeoning hobbyist numbers
11-15, still a hobbyist but more experienced, including lesser-known works
16-22, making your way downtown, walkin fast, faces pass and you're homebound
23-30, have read most of them by now, with some exceptions
31-36, could very feasibly finish the complete plays soon
37-40, have read the entire canon and perhaps apocrypha, like an obsessed person
I'm curious about people's levels of familiarity; I intend no judgment or elitism and it's absolutely fine not to be a completionist, btw. I didn't think I would've intended to have read them all at age 25; it just sort of happened that after I passed the halfway point in the middle of 2023, I came out of a reading slump and was motivated to finish. Fwiw I consider myself a hobbyist (I am not involved in academia or professional theater) but I realize that that label is usually attributed to people with less experience.
I also have always loved seeing other bloggers' Shakespeare polls where they put certain plays or characters up against each other, but I'm often left wondering if it's really a 'fair' fight all the time if you're putting up something like Hamlet or Twelfth Night against one of the more obscure works, like the Winter's Tale. It's not a grave affront to vote in those polls if you don't know every play, but I am curious about it.
Please reblog for exposure if you vote; I would appreciate it a lot. Also feel free to elaborate on your own Shakespeare journey in tags, comments, reblogs, because I love to hear about other people's personal relationships to literature.

Now it is time for all of you to tell us about your very first impressions, notions or thoughts about Shakespeare's works. What was that kind of old thing that everybody seemed to praise so highly? Should I like it just like that? Did it have any appeal? Be honest and write comments about your first encounters with William.

We are about to engage ourselves on our first contact with the bard of Avon's imaginarium. This will be a wonderful way to learn English whilst enjoying high literature. Pay attention during the next days because some questions regarding Shakespeare will be posted that must be answered. Remember that this is addressed to more than just students.
This will be part of the introductory sequence to our didactic unit. It will consist of 5 tasks in which all students must participate.
Alas, we are not asking yet to have read Shakespeare... just give us some more of that petty pace... Adieu!!
