Back to the start
Natasha walked briskly, hugging her long brown coat around her thin frame. To anyone on the outside she looked like any other woman who was eager to get home. But in reality she was on her way to make a rather delicate deal for some information. Once she thought she was going straight, but with the fall of SHIELD she found herself reverting back to her ‘hero-for-hire’ ways. Which was why she found herself in a particularly dark, scarcely populated area of New York City. She heard the thugs closing behind her before they spoke up.
"Представьте себе видеть Вас здесь, мало паука." One of them said.
Her lips curled up ever so slightly before she stopped and turned around. “You know perfectly well why I’m here.” She arched an eyebrow. “Have you brought what I asked for?”
The man nodded at his associates and they backed off slightly. In her peripheral vision, Nat catalogued their weak spots just in case. The man, Edgar, pulled out a USB from his pocket and held it in front of her. She held out her gloved hand (she knew better than to leave her finger prints everywhere) for the USB. Edgar smiled and dropped it into her hand.
“This has everything?” She said as she stuffed it into her pocket.
Edgar just nodded and took a step closer to her. Alarm bells were ringing in her head but she ignored them. She strained her neck to look up at the bear of a man with a stubborn look on her face.
“About your payment.” He said, a predatory look on his face.
“Yes, you get to walk out of here with your lives.” She smiled.
The associates looked scared, they were new on the job and had probably heard stories about her. But Edgar wasn’t so easily persuaded.
“Ah, Мало паукa, everyone knows you have gone soft. You couldn’t kill me if you wanted to.”
He raised a hand to touch her cheek, but he never made it that far. She had him on the floor with his arm twisted behind his back before he could even take a breath.
“I have not gone soft.” She hissed into his ear.
Nat was about to knock him out, his associates long gone, before she heard someone walking up behind her. She released Edgar and spun around, fully intending to incapacitate whomever thought they could sneak up on her. But she realised she knew the person a second before her foot made contact with their abdomen.
“What the hell?” She swore, turning around just in time to watch Edgar get into a black car and drive away. She turned back to the person. “I have been trying to pin him for months and you ruined it in a number of seconds!”
