y’all ever watch a show and just go “… what the fuck am i even watching???”. because that’s just taskmaster. genuinely what is this show even about anymore

Taskmaster Rewatch: Series 9

Thoughts on series: 1, 2, 3, 4 5 6 7 8

Not a series that features any production changes or at least not any I clocked on the watch through. I guess it is notable that they have guests come in for the recording when Katie Wix was out sick.

In terms of memorable tasks or moments I think the whole team dynamic of Jo and David is pretty much the true true start of Middle aged to elderly contestants who like truly don't give a fuck. Like we've had some confused old men but they all still cared in a way Jo Band simply could never. There is also of course Ed Gamble stealing from Greg and Rose Matafeo's shed fish poster (shout out to taskmaster New Zealand for their commitment to that bit). The were a lot of music tasks and a lot of egg related tasks. The chick pea one is one that (unfortunately?) lives rent free in my head. I'm also a big fan of the coordinated outfits for the finale record! I think because Ed Gamble is still involved in the show via podcast this is a series most people remember and possibly overate*. It's the first series where the women outnumber the men and boy I am here for that!

In terms of the cast its a pretty iconic line up. I forgot just how truly abysmal David Baddiel was at the show. But I could never for get angry puppies Ed and Rose or couldn't give a shit Jo Brand. I often feel Katy is overshadowed and additionally hurt by being sick for two episodes, but on this rewatch I feel like she has a sort of quite weirdness that is compelling. Rating 9/10- absolutely a banger

*reminder that overrated doesn't always mean it's bad just that I think people are quicker to rate it higher than some seasons I think are just as good
