11/20: Taste of Merry Farm

Last tasting event of the year for Knotts Berry Farm, this time in the theme of the season: Merry Farm! They really pulled out all the stops for this go around: Food, Games, Shopping, and Characters! I swear it almost seemed like it was a normal day at Knotts, you know just social distanced.  

First stop was Hollywood Hits for some alcohol: Frosty Jack and Coke, Frozen Cherry Lime Margarita, and Champagne & Boysenberry Ice Cream. Having shared all three- Frosty Jack and Coke was pretty simply awesome. The champagne was good with boysenberry ice cream! Like I want to buy that by itself and recreate it at home! 

Next stop was Coasters Diner where we all had the same thing: basically thanksgiving in a bowl (cranberries, chicken, gravy, potatoes, corn, and stuffing). It was a really good size too. Sooo good. Paired perfectly with hot chocolate. 

After that was Papa Loca, where one had the Beef Empenadas (perfectly spicy) and Popcorn Chicken/Cheese/French Fry Bowl. The bowl was the perfect comfort food. While our third tried out Carne Asada Street Tacos. The meat had a perfect seasoning and street tacos are always good. 

Now anyone keeping count would see that we are only really on Swipe 4, and for the time of year being so sweet-no real deserts! But I had one more item myself: Mistletoe Maple Syrup Sausage Dog. I about died after eating it because it was so good but I had like no room at all. While my sister went for the upgrade on the beloved deep fried cinnamon roll: Cinnamon Bun with a Maple Glaze and Candied Pecans, deep fried of course. If I have smelled anything that would symbolize diabetes-this was it. Really really good though. 

All the games were brought back with a promotion: 12 days of play. Play twelve games and turn the card in for a guaranteed prize. So we just had fun and won a couple of small things and gave our big thing to my wife. 

And then of course you can’t forget Santa. Little did we know you had to make an appointment with him as soon as you got in the park. We did not. So we took the standby option of seeing if someone forgot their appointment and you would just take theirs. Luckily we only waited like 10 minutes then got in. You first talked to Mrs. Claus and she was the sweetest old lady I have ever met-when I picture who my mom is in an universe where you get to pick your parents-she’s it. And we took a social distance picture with Santa! 

Really good time, worth the money even thought ticket prices went up. And honestly plan for a full day there-there is a lot to do this time around.

9/25- Knott’s Berry Farm Taste-O-Falloween

So this time we went back to Knotts but we did so with more than just me and my BFF, we went with my sister and husband! With four people, 5 swipes each-the foodie challenge was on! This theme was fall, most likely what Knotts is doing in leu of Scary Farm. 

Husband started with a Boysenberry smoothie, which was too sweet for him and more like a slushie for us. Followed by Cheeseburger Mac and Cheese for the ladies, Sausage and Chicken Jambalaya for the lad. The mac and cheese sounded better than it tasted but they always use real cheese in their sauce and that helps people with food allergies!  

Diablo fries happened next and were enjoyed by all with a spicy food pallet. After that we went into the art exhibit honoring scary farm. Not only can you purchase the items on the wall, they have special stuff for scary farm on sale that I don’t think my bff has seen before, and she goes every year. Nothing like shopping to make you hungry again. 

One of our favorite things of the day was the headless meatball sandwich, a tasty meatball on a Hawaiian roll with sweet potato waffle chips. Will be getting that again. And of course once you have savory you need more sweet in your life-and we got Graveyard funnel cake and the ghoulish pumpkin bun. Chocolate and vanilla funnel cake with Oreo crumbles, chocolate ice cream, and candy worms. Deep fried cinnamon roll with a pumpkin icing. We loved the cinnamon roll, and the funnel cake had it not been burnt had potential. 

When full switch to beverages, like the MAD Shirley Temple and Boysenberry Beer. Still on desert mode, we tried Pumpkin Spice Churro Sticks and Orange Creamsicle ICEE Float. Having only a couple of swipes left, we split everything else from here. Shrimp and Vegetable Curry Bowl, Spicy Sausage with a Bacon Onion Jam on a Hoagie Roll, and Sweet Chili Chicken Drumsticks. All good. 

I love things like this for the fact that events like this that happen during the changing of the season show how the flavors themselves change. And I in fact encountered my first thing that I want to try and recreate at home! Highly suggested for anyone wanting to do something for the season!

8/23: Taste of Knotts at Knotts Berry Farm

I went to the Taste of Calico, and next up was Taste of Knotts. Comparing Calico to Knotts, I thought the event was more thought out, the whole park was open, and the shopping was much much better. But of course what is this about if not the food? 

Given that the whole park was open, the food options were also much larger. This time we were smarter in picking our options and not just going in for the first item we saw. The first item was Carnitas Fries with Pico De Gallo and Sour Cream. It really only was missing Siracha Ketchup. Nice take on Nachos, but with Fries.  

From Savory to Sweet, we literally saw someone else with this item and decided we had to eat it next. I introduce to you, Blue Velvet Lemon Cookie which with Vanilla Ice Cream. Yeah it was as good as it sounded. A refreshing mix of blue velvet and lemon and creamy vanilla. It was also massive in size and got everywhere. Yum. 

Back to savory, nothing hit the spot better than old school Macaroni and Cheese! My friend got the “spicier” version but I was told it was not that spicy. The extra cheese was nice, and I normally have a hard time eating Mac and Cheese outside of the house do to fake cheese allergies. The cheese sauce was excellent. 

Finally, it was nice to finish off the day with something to drink-and the longest line of the day was for the Unicorn Icee- Orange Fanta, Blue Raspberry, Red Cherry, and Yellow Lemon....paired with a Watermelon Lemonade. It was so refreshing and the first time in a long time that I got a brain freeze. It made me feel young again. 

Lastly, I want to speak to the shopping. Every part of the park had their own goodies, like face masks. There were special event items (like shirts and pins) which play to Knotts celebrating 100 years during COVID 2020. Also, we were able to find a golden special edition snoopy that is only out for the 100th year anniversary. Knotts is also in the pin game? They are not that bad, and quite charming in design actually.
