Having tattoos is cool until they mean posting my nudes would be doxing myself
I found the least healthy way to overcome tattoo OCD
I noticed that if I stare at any of my tats for too long, I notice all these tiny imperfections that drive me insane. I blame ink-master for this.
But… then I said “fuck it. Every tattoo is imperfect” and that’s what I see everyone says. So I went through every tattoo I had ever used as a potential reference. And just stared at them.
All these tats were perfect to me at one point. So good I wanted to take them to an artist as inspiration. And bam I now see all the imperfections in those pieces. To the point where I can’t see the image and see ANYTHING else about it.
Is it a healthy coping mechanism? I highly doubt it. I’m ruining art for myself. But it helps me just accept that no tattoo is perfect. They all have blemishes and flaws. Little spaces where the linework got bumpy on a curve. Lines that didn’t connect perfectly. That one line that looks just a little scratchy.
With my OCD brain, everything comes with… personal attacks. I forgot to lock the door. Im an idiot and my roommate hates me. I didn’t triple check my keys. I suck. I need to recheck the route 500 times cause im stupid and will fuck up the route I take once a week. My friend told me about how they had to cut off their abusive ex? “How long will it take for me to do something horrible and reprehensible before they realize that I suck too?” “Did I already do something?” “Am I a bad friend and refuse to accept it?”
But like a human being did an art on another human being. The human being doing it isn’t perfect. And the human being who has it on their skin wasn’t perfectly still for the process. Their body has curves and contours and shit. Things can be really good without being perfect.
"She's Got the Tattoo Blues," by Hans Ostrom (Lyrics), Jackie D. (Music)
Got my first tattoo yesterday. I’m having what I assume are the normal anxieties a person gets post-tattoo, but I do like it what I got. However. Not one person in my immediate family likes it at all and that is making me very unsure of myself
Which is like, so counterintuitive to the meaning of the tattoo I got, too. The situation is really stupid and I hate it and I hate having regrets brought on by other people when if they all supported me and liked it I would be 100% fine. I know I need to grow up and realize that their opinions don’t matter but like. They kinda do to me. I love them and want them to like the decisions I make
It really doesn’t help that the first thing my sister said about it is “I thought you’d get something more unique that not everyone has” cause she’s sorta right. It’s a super common tattoo and I didn’t totally know that before getting it. And I hate doing things that are super common……. Agh.

Tattoo regret stories are circulating TikTok. Tattoo artists say social media may be to blame.
when I was getting all these tattoos I was trying real hard to rationalise it. thinking things like "they'll hide my scars, I want to die anyway so soon it won't even matter, if I get just one more tattoo everything will finally be balanced and my ocd will be soothed and I'll be happy with myself". and I was NOT well and acknowledging that I was not well helps me feel less guilty, it helps me rationalise being stuck with them now. and I have to keep telling myself that every day to keep myself strong enough to even get out of the house at all
