Do you really have mantis babies???? I've wanted one as a pet since I was a kid and found one. But I was worried I'd kill it so I set it free. I've looked and the prices are nutz (if I remember correctly). What can I do to get a baby!?

I do! They are amazing pets! I made a longer post about raising mantids on fyeahcutebugs, which you can read here. 

They aren't ALL super expensive, especially the more common or "plain" species, like most Heirodula sp. or Sphodromantis sp. or the common American Tenodera sinensis, aka Chinese mantis. The absolute cheapest option would be to wait until spring and buy an egg case at a local or online nursery, (which are usually from Tenodera sinensis), which will only be a couple bucks, and then hatch them all yourself outdoors! You can get a large mesh butterfly cage (online or at a nursery or hobby store) and hatch them all in there, then release most and keep the ones you want. I'd recommend doing it that way vs. hatching an ooth indoors now, because dealing with hundreds of tiny nymphs is really intimidating for the first-time owner, especially with how fast they scurry away and their high mortality rate. (note you should ONLY release mantis hatchlings if it's of a local species, doing otherwise is illegal and dangerous for your local ecosystem!)
