#backroads by #tawniodell - a young man takes on the responsibility of raising his three sisters after his mother is sent to prison for murdering their father. Interesting read... or in this case... listen. My first attempt at #audible after deciding years ago that books on tape weren't my cup of tea. That aside, I found the story interesting, even though at times I just couldn't find it in me to like the main character. It bravely touched on triggering subjects, and really brought you into the messed up lives of these characters. At times it could be a bit too vulgar for my liking, and I would have been grateful had there been more of a warning about the subject matter. (Really, the summary suggests it's not a happy story, what with murder being the subject, but some of the things it delved into I found probably needed a warning of their own.) But it was a good book nonetheless. Watching the characters unravel as the story progressed was the best part. (Because I'm weird. I enjoy tragedy and angst far too much.) You wanted things to be okay, for them to figure it all out, but in the end, it was just a train wreck that couldn't be avoided, and I didn't dare look away. Solid 4 Hook rating. #reading #listening #reviews
