I just got a refund of my fees paid to TurboTax after some time on the phone with them -- the representative was WONDERFUL and understood my situation).
Please stay away from Turbotax if you owe any money on your taxes. They won’t let you pay via debit/credit (at least they did not for me), and they charged me $88 for live tax advice (I only meant to spend $29 on that but it added another $49 because I thought I was choosing the $29 option since I have gambling winnings and losses [more losses than wins] and didn’t qualify for a free return) but the “tax advice” turned out to be a bot that had no answers other than “ask a live representative” which was the same bot and not a live representative. On a rare day when I’m awake in the middle of the day.
But when I called, I got a real-life rep on the phone who didn’t know a thing about taxes, but saw that I had had an issue with the bot and refunded my $88 (granted, the refund is not yet showing on my account but I think the rep was genuine when they said they were refunding my TurboTax fee). I mean, I’m already sending almost $1,200 to the IRS (I wasn’t smart enough to opt-in to having taxes deducted from my unemployment while the casino was closed last year, I just wanted the money at that moment and that’s on me), I don’t need to spend an extra $88 to send money to Uncle Sam.
I ended up filing through H&R Block, which came up with the same amount owed to the government, without charging me extra for non-existent tax help. This is the end of several years in a row using TurboTax.because the ONE time I had a question they couldn’t answer it.
But again, the representative on the phone for TurboTax was very helpful and issued a refund for what I paid, so they’re not ALL bad. At least their customer service people know what they’re doing, even if the company does not.
No more TurboTax for me. I am grateful that I will (hopefully) be reimbursed for my cost with them (it has not happened yet but it may need a new business day to go through), but...they played dirty this year for the first time since I’ve done business with them.
Flag of New Holland or Dutchy Brazil. In 1630, Netherlands took the control of the brazilian province of Pernambuco. New Holland lasted until 1654, when the Dutchy were kicked out from the province due the high taxes. The capital was Maurisstad (Recife).

Tax tips not superstitions can help handle IRS notices
Did you make it through Friday the 13th unscathed? Congratulations.
How many of these 25 common superstitions do you believe?
If you're superstitious, you probably think your safe passage on this traditionally scary day was because you made sure you avoided black cats, didn't walk under any ladders or knocked on wood.
I'm with you with some of these. Not the cats. I love cats of all hues.
But I do rap my knuckles on furniture to ward off jinxes. And ladders; I always stay away from those, but mainly because I'm clumsy.
But when it comes to frightening notices from the Internal Revenue Service, there's no magic. Just following the tax rules.
If you do get a letter from Uncle Sam's tax collector, these 13 tips can help you come away from your IRS encounter just fine, on Friday the 13th or any day.
