Taylor Wessing: photographic portraiture prize exhibition
i visited this exhibition to gain inspiration for the constructed photograph series project. Portraiture and using human subjects is something I have always been interesting in exploring in photography, which makes this project so perfect.
at this point I am unsure whether to explore the human subject in terms of a tableau in order to convey a narrative, or going for a portrait approach. I feel as though this exhibition has inspired me to look more into portraiture, as this project is an opportunity for me to push myself and learn new skills in an aspect of photography I have always desired to delve into.
it was so apparent in all the images in this exhibition, that a narrative can still be told by the eyes and presence of a human subject in a portrait. Each photograph was so individually intriguing and relatable. They powerfully evoked emotions through one singular image. I also found that a large majority of the photographers exhibited, studied a BA photography course, which has hugely influenced me to strive to create and learn throughout this project, to maybe one day see my portraiture work in a similar exhibition.
