"ECSTATIC WAVE"
by Taylor White
"[My] work explores the way in which we experience the formless chaos of potential through being, and how the order we inhabit can sometimes dissolve backwards into the incredible complexity from which it emerged."
Raleigh figurative artist Taylor White studied at Savannah College of Art and Design, and while now living back in North Carolina she has established roots across the globe—working as a full-time illustrator for a Norwegian advertising agency then pursuing painting in Australia and "furnishing the streets and galleries of Melbourne with her uniquely haunting, expressive portraits of forlorn youth." White says her work combines techniques of classical training with bright, unexpected color choices born from the residue of street art and pop culture. The "unexpected colors" of Ecstatic Wave were painted on this N Dr MLK Jr St wall in St Pete, Florida, for the 2019 Shine festival. @taylurk/ @shineonstpete/

"FEAR"
by Taylor White
"It is fear that holds men back—fear lest their cherished beliefs should prove delusions, fear lest the institutions by which they live should prove harmful, fear lest they themselves should prove less worthy of respect than they have supposed themselves to be." —Bertrand Russell
Taylor White is a figurative artist who "utilizes the human form to depict conversations, explore fields of consciousness, and realize the cathartic points at which the soul confronts its physical form." Raised in Raleigh, NC and educated at Savannah College of Art and Design, her work is heavily influenced by improvisational dance, seeking to capture its "exquisitely expressive movements" and find the "sweet spot between order and chaos." In 2015 White painted this work at W Cary and S Addison Streets—one of two murals for @RichmondMuralProject1 . @taylurk/
