In 1978 at Ridge Farm Studios, two seemingly disparate musical styles met head on and created a unique moment in music history. "Punky Reggae Party" takes a close look at the making of the track "New Town", part of the seminal Slits' debut LP "Cut". The story is told by producer Dennis Bovell and Slits guitarist Viv Albertine.

So funny and interesting talk! The Slits’ New Town version is a favourite track of mine.

A full technical glitches shouldn't spoil the enjoyment of a show that starts with Curtis, ends with Mr Scruff and shimmies from Soca disco, to African funk via Floating Points, Public Enemy by way of Isaac Hayes. This week's Soho Radio show started with the Dennis Bovell produced sound of The Slits and ended with the Mizell Brothers' peerless production of Johnny Hammond. Along the way there was some Nigerian disco ( ain't there always), some Tom Waits, new music from Jim-E Stack and Clap Clap, old music from The Beatnuts & Public Enemy, the best cut from a lesbian vampire soundtrack, and of course something Purple from the very early Prince era.
